A thinking puzzle from me | | Okay, this one is fairly simple, but it's one I read a long time ago and it has just stuck with me for some reason:
Mr. Smith buys a brand new Cadillac and has to go give it a good whirl and show off. As he speeding down the road, he runs a stop sign and broadsides a car coming from the other direction.
When the police arrive, the driver of the other car is kind of banged around but okay, but the passenger is dead. However, the police merely write tickets for Mr. Smith for speeding and running the stop sign and reckless driving. He is never charged for the death of the other car's passenger.
Why?
