"One Step Beyond" (lateral thinking puzzle)

Another puzzler from Paul Sloane's Lateral Thinking Puzzles. Hopefully this'll take a little longer to solve than the last one.

A man stood looking through the window on the sixth floor of an office building. Suddenly, he was overcome by an impulse. He opened the window and leapt through it. It was a sheer drop outside the building to the ground. He did not use a parachute or land in water or on any special soft surface. Yet the man was completely unhurt when he landed. How could that be so?

Is the 6th floor 6 stories up or is floor 1 under ground?

Is it a normal sized building or a smaller scale reproduction or model?

When he leapt out the window, did he land on the roof of the building next door? Or on the balcony outside the window?

1. Is he dreaming?

2. Was he standing on an outer ledge and leaped into the building?

Re: "One Step Beyond" (lateral thinking puzzle)

Was the window from one inside location to another inside location? Thus, he lept into a hallway or some other sort of INSIDE locale?

Is he dreaming? No.

Was he standing on an outer ledge and leaped into the building? Yes! The book doesn't supply a reason as to why he was outside on the ledge in the first place -- suicidal thoughts, window-washing, take your pick.
