| | "The Man in the Bar": lateral thinking puzzle | | Another one from Paul Sloane's "Lateral Thinking Puzzles":
A man walked into a bar and asked the barman for a glass of water. They had never met before. The barman pulled a gun from under the counter and pointed it at the man. The man said "Thank you" and walked out. Why should that be so? |

Does the fact that he asked for WATER make a difference (as opposed to a beer or a whiskey etc.,) |

Was the man going to pour the water into something else? No. I should amend one of my earlier answers ... yes, the man was going to drink the water, but there is a reason behind that.
Was the man going to take the water out of the bar? No.
Had the man ever been in the bar before? Irrelevant.
Was Margaret Hamilton anywhere in the vicinity? Er, no. *scratches head because she's missing the reference* |

If this isn't it, how long will you let this go on? I'm tempted to get the book from the library so that I don't have to wait any longer, or try to borrow it from the local gun-toting bartender. | |
