The person who painted the picture had died. When an artist dies, his work becomes more valuable, therefore, when the woman walked into the gallery of valuable art, and saw a new picture, she determined that the artist must be dead.

When you say 'she immediately knew that someone had been killed', do you mean to imply that she knew that someone had died of other than natural causes?

The person who painted the picture had died. When an artist dies, his work becomes more valuable, therefore, when the woman walked into the gallery of valuable art, and saw a new picture, she determined that the artist must be dead. Interesting solution, but sorry, no.
