| | "King George IV" (lateral thinking puzzler) | | Another one from Paul Sloane's Lateral Thinking Puzzlers:
King George IV was born in 1763. He was king of England from 1820 until his death in 1830. He was not a great king, but he did start a new trend in footwear. His boots were different from everybody else's. The innovation concerning his boots was copied and it is commonplace today, but at the time was very unusual. What was it?

| | Re: "King George IV" (lateral thinking puzzler) | | Were they made for a multinational corporation by children in Asian sweatshops? Just how old is the Nike company anyway?
Were the king's the first boots to be differentiated for the left and right foots?
Did he decorate them somehow? |

It was later that year that they distinguished between foots and feet. |

| | Re: "King George IV" (lateral thinking puzzler) | | Well, if he put his left feet in, he ought to take his left feet out and then, well, you know: Quote:
Shakespeare's Hokey Pokey
as submitted by Jeff Brechlin, Potomac Falls
O proud left foot, that ventures quick within
Then soon upon a backward journey lithe.
Anon, once more the gesture, then begin:
Command sinistral pedestal to writhe.
Commence thou then the fervid Hokey-Poke,
A mad gyration, hips in wanton swirl.
To spin! A wilde release from Heavens yoke.
Blessed dervish! Surely canst go, girl.
The Hoke, the poke -- banish now thy doubt
Verily, I say, 'tis what it's all about.

I'll bet Peter had a hand in it. | His right hand or his left hand - or can't we tell the difference between the two? |

Wasn't he the same king who made the foot (and inch) equal for everyone, be it right or left? |

Second, Peter's right -- King George IV was the first one to wear shoes specifically made for the left and right feet. Nice going, Peter!

who wonders if George developed those using a rule of thumb
