"Kneed to Know" (lateral thinking puzzler)

Here's one from Paul Sloane's Super Lateral Thinking Puzzles:

A woman places her hand on her husband's knee for an hour and then takes it off for ten minutes; then she places her hand on her husband's knee for another hour. Why?

My PM box is now open.

He's reading a thread in the Soapbox and she's trying to prevent him from having a knee-jerk reaction.

Ah!! Worm just noticed that you used the "kneed" version - not the "need" version. Interesting. Is this physical therapy?

Re: "Kneed to Know" (lateral thinking puzzler)

Are they at a theatrical performance?

She's tapping out the dialogue (or narration or whatever) for him; it's a two-act play with a ten minute intermission, during which she takes her hand off of his knee and heads off to the ladies' room.

(It's unrealistic, of course, because the lines at the ladies' room are so long that she won't, in fact, be back by the end of the intermission and will, in fact, miss half of the second act because the theater management doesn't realize that women just need more time, damn it, and ought to have more bathrooms.)

Is it because his boots were the first to be differentiated for the left and right feet?

Peter,

(and doing so a bit too late)
