For Whom the Bell Tolls (lateral thinking puzzler)

A new one which I found online (title is mine):

A rope breaks. A bell rings. A man dies. Why?

My PM box is now open.

Oh.

Was the rope breakage intentional?
Was the bell ringing a signal for something?

Was the rope breakage intentional? No.

Was the bell ringing a signal for something? In a way, yes.

Was the rope controlling the bell? If you mean did it control whether the bell rang or not, the answer is no.

Re: For Whom the Bell Tolls (lateral thinking puzzler)

Was the rope that broke the one that was holding the bell suspended?
Is the death intentional? (Either murder or by law?)

Was the man executed?

Could the man hear the bell before he died?

Was it a Taco Bell?

Re: For Whom the Bell Tolls (lateral thinking puzzler)

Was the man's death accidental?

If so, was the accident caused by the bell's ringing?

Did the sound of the bell cover some other, vital sound?

Was the rope restraining a man-eating tiger wearing a bell on his collar? No, but that would've be a good solution too.

All I can think about is the solution to Dorothy Sayers' Nine Tailors--a mystery concerning bell-ringing.

I thought I had it, until this answer.

Are the three events listed in the order they occurred: rope; bell; death?

All I can think about is the solution to Dorothy Sayers' Nine Tailors--a mystery concerning bell-ringing. I don't know that one. How does it go?

Are the three events listed in the order they occurred: rope; bell; death? Yes.
