Time for a new puzzle, this time from Mental Fitness Puzzles: A Lateral Thinking Approach (Hendrickson, Hendrickson, Kenneke and Hendrickson):
J.P. visits his favorite pub. While coming back from the restroom he sees a stranger take his wallet from his jacket, which he had left draped over his chair. J.P. watches the thief spend the money. Can you explain his passive response? |

The owner of the bar?
Is he paying any sort of bill previously incurred by JP (and paying it on JP's behalf)? |

He figured it'd be the best way to find out how good the conterfeits were: watch from a safe distance whether or not they'd be accepted. |
