"Bad Medicine" (lateral thinking puzzler)

Another one from Mental Fitness Puzzles:

Mel had consultations with Dr. Greenwood over several days in an attempt to cure his condition. When Mel was finally cured, he immediately strangled the doctor to death. Why?

My PM box is now open.

Just established by PM: Mel's condition was not the hiccups.

Mel obviously didn't have adequate insurance.

Mel obviously didn't have adequate insurance. It's possible -- I don't think his profession came with it.

Re: "Bad Medicine" (lateral thinking puzzler)

Is Mel a mobster?

Could the doctor have identified him in court?

Was the doctor a plastic surgeon?

Was Mel's condition fatal if untreated?

Re: "Bad Medicine" (lateral thinking puzzler)

Mel was a hit man who was hired to bump off Dr. Greenwood, who just so happened to have been treating him for performance anxiety.

Maybe they went to med school, got out, treated a guy and then he strangled them.

_____

Was the condition amnesia? Once cured, the hitman remembered what he came for.

Peter,
trying to follow in Sarah's footsteps

(Or maybe the hitman had limp wrists, not that there's anything wrong with that.)

I know I have someone to thank for this. Now, if I could just remember who.
