Here's a new puzzle from Paul Sloane's Lateral Thinking Puzzles:
The police in Venezuela have been trying to arrest a notorious criminal for some time. They know where he lives. On several occasions, they have obtained a warrant for his arrest and have gone to his house. However, as soon as they enter the house, he locks himself in his bedroom. The police then go away frustrated. Why should that be so?
It's extraordinary to me that the United States can find $700 billion to save Wall Street and the entire G8 can't find $25 billion dollars to save 25,000 children who die every day from preventable diseases.~ Bono
Is his bedroom in another country?
Is the house on a border with another country? Yes! Part of his house was in Venezuela, but the other part (including his bedroom) is in Colombia.
I wish I could find an online reference to a real life example of this.....there is a house in our area - it's a huge log home that all of the rooms on each floor are built in a circular floor plan and interconnect. Back in the late 1800's/early 1900's, it was a gambling/bar/house of ill-repute. When the Mills County Sheriff would arrive, all the residents and "clients" would run through the house to the Pottawattomie side, and vice versa wheh the Pott country sheriff arrived. The sheriff could only stand at the door and yell at the patrons and employees because they were technically not able to arrest them for anything. I always wondered what they'd do if both sheriffs showed up at the same time.
