How do you define reigning? Wouldn't Maud be considered the first reigning queen of England even though Stephen deposed her?

I'm not finding anywhere in my reading that she was ever coronated or recognized as the true queen.

Even though she did technically rule for a little while, she was never known as Queen.

No? I'm going to have to go back and look things up. The lords swore loyalty to her before her father died. However, she was out of the country when he died and Stephen took the throne. They fought for years, but there was a period of about four months when she controlled London and won the bishops over to her side--led by Henry, Stephen's brother. I thought she was coronated before London rose up against her and drove her out.

But then...it's been awhile since I've read anything about her.

I got a "Message too short" error. Now that's never happened before!!

Bridgette - you can't have just a spoiler. There has to be at least one character. That's why sometimes you see a spoiler and just one period in a post. I think someone said there's some other way of getting in one character and not having it show, but I can't remember what it was.
