Lisa is one of the people I admire most on Epinions.
Because my brother has MS, I understand the challenges she is facing, and am happy that the new treatments available are bringing hope and increased mobility to many patients. But still, it is daunting for a young person to face, particularly since the worst case scenario is so frightening, and there is no way to tell how the disease will progress.
My brother has been diagnosed with MS for 12 years, although they said his initial attack probably occurred around 1975 or 1976, when he was in college, and then went into remission for 15 years. He relies pretty heavily on a cane, and wears trifocals for vision problems. He still works, although his employer, the federal government, has given him some adaptations, and fellow employees donated some of their "use or lose leave" into an emergency fund in his name. He has a wonderfully positive attitude, much like Lisa's.
Lisa and I also share a love of contemporary praise and worship music, and her husband is as involved with her church's music ministry as I am with mine.
Lisa has a great faith in God. On other boards, she has shared the fact that her husband recently lost a 15 year job with Boeing and has decided to retrain for a position in the medical field. Initially there was a question as to whether he would qualify for the special benefits that would allow him to go back to college and retrain, but thankfully that has been settled.
Lisa supplements their income by running an at-home daycare.
On Bluehawq's Nest and on her own board, the Kids and Family Treehouse, Lisa can regularly be found offering consolation to people in the Love and Support areas, even, sometimes, when their own challenges seem small in comparison to her own.
When the "My Favorite Epinions Writer" writeoff was held, I wrote about Zapbot. If I had the opportunity to participate in another, I think I might write about Lisa_J.
She is an amazing lady. |
