The Helpful Hit Parade

Ok, time for a new Special Event.

Here are the rules: Post a link to a review, written by someone other than yourself, that genuinely prompted you to make A Buying Decision. A review that was so utterly persuasive that it singlehandedly made the difference for you.

I'll start you off with The Gift of "Solid" Waste: Elevating Kitchen Trash to the Level of Art , by nfp. Had I not read this ode to an unbelievably expensive kitchen item, I would never in a million years have purchased it.

And, boy, am I glad I did. Bought it, still love it.

Ok, your turn ....

Over the years, I've been influenced by many book/movie reviews which nudged me in the direction of Barnes & Noble or the local cineplex. But I can think of few epinions which so persuasively twisted my arm (in a good way) to make a smart buying decision than kcfoxy's personal tribute to Tracy Nelson (Essential Country Blues Diva ). She was there in a smoky bar when Nelson sat down at a piano to play, back in the late 1960s.

After kcfoxy wrote a paragraph like this
A dark haired young woman sat at a piano, waiting for the smoke filled hall to quiet. What emerged were gospel chords and progressions accompanying a rich contralto voice, building layer upon layer of heart break and stark pain into a wailing crescendo of angst. My arms still get goose bumps remembering Nelson's plaintive cries for a lost love, she could never replace. Written and arranged by the 20 year old Northern California native, Down So Low still stands as her finest, most realized work.
I knew I just had to hear for myself what made this throaty gal so great.

kristinafh's review of the movie "Serendipity" did it for me. I can't wait for this one to come out on video...

Easy. jrk's review of The Golden Compass.

I had to read it after that. Or, to borrow from the Free Will thread and George McFly, it was my density.

It's happened several times with books but the very first time I remember it happening led me to one of my favorite "physics toys" as I collectively call my rather large collection of math and science-related art, puzzles, and toys.

May I present to you all TheEye's Klein Bottle review. Yes, you too can own a boundary-free manifold just by visiting www.kleinbottle.com. Then come back and read the review - it's great too!

Janice

Edited: Be careful that site is dangerous! I almost just bought another Klein bottle!
