Shop Till You Drop! Yeah. I know you're not supposed to shop online using company resources. But, if you're going to do it, you may as well save some money.

I thought this didn't happen until you got old...

I need a new winter coat or jacket or something warm anyway.

I start shopping online. How scary is this...

Owned this jacket in 1994... same color and everything. Mine was LL Bean though, I believe.

Owned this one in 1995. Mine was dark green though. Bought it at Express. Loved the quilted look.

Owned this one in 1996. Don't remember where I bought it. Everyone was jealous of that jacket.

I know everything old becomes new again. I was used to things like Converse or Keds coming in and out of fashion, or Louis Vuitton purses. But I wasn't expecting to go to Nordstrom's website and see all the jackets I've owned for sale all over again. Oy!

(Also, good thing I still own both the quilted and sheerling/suede jacket!)

Well, I still own the quilted jacket, but I have a horrible memory associated with it, so I don't wear it.

The sheerling jacket is nice. It's Jones, which I had forgotten. It's only a medium, but it's old, so it's a normal size medium (unlike the mediums of today). So it still fits (barely!)

Here's the weird thing though.. I felt itchy as soon as I touched it. Now I have my first hive popping up.

How weird is that? I wore the jacket for two winters with no problems. Then, five years later I take it out of storage and hives pop up. It was on the side of the closet where all those things that are too expensive to part with but will never be worn go.

Eek. Two more hives. I'm getting some benydryl.

Owned the same coat in 1994, 1995 and 1996. Believe I still own it.

Well, yeah, I still OWN a jacket from 1989. But that's not what I'm talking about.

But, what I meant is that these jackets are back in style. Something I once bought because it was trendy came back in as a new trend.

I've never worn the same coat for more than two seasons. I'm bad like that. Well, except for wool coats, which seem to never go out of fashion.

I had the same thought as George. I only own three pairs of shoes, too.

Oh lordy. Want me to go through how many pairs of black leather boots I own?

Margaret, who might be thrifty, but still wants for nothing in the clothes department (I'm trying to be better, I swear! I just like having nice clothes, and women's trends change much quicker than men's).

Margaret

Were the coats packed in moth balls? Worst case of hives I ever got was from a sweater packed in moth balls. It got unseasonably cold and I needed a nice sweater quick. It was my great Uncle's wake. I itched and got all red and splotchy all over. It was horrible!

No... just in my closet. No moth balls. No cedar. Just regular closet stuff. Clothes. Photographs in boxes up on the top shelf. Nothing I can think of.

It's odd. I was highly allergic to a throw my mom bought last year that had feathers in it. I have feather everything (comforter, pillows, feather bed) and none of it bothers me. Just those throwss she bought. This was similar.

I wonder if I am allergic to animal products, but most of my shoes, bags, and jackets are leather, as is my couch, and none of these things bothers me.

Shrug. I don't get it.

Allergic to wool, moved to massachusetts with honey, having a bitch of a time shopping for regular clothes here - EVERYTHING has wool in it and everything is arctic strength - no cooling clothes for those of us who find 60 comfortable and must suffer at interminable jobs and homes and bars and restaurants where it is kept about 80 degrees all winter for the coldies... sigh...

I own three jackets, bought in 1989 - a long trench coat raincoat, black; a leather jacket, black; and a jean jacket. They do me just fine, but I was never into following the trends - too expensive as they change year to year. I spend that money on books and music and computer stuff and presents for other people.

Magic word: Classic. Like somewool coats. I never noticed these jackets going out of style. Of course, I don't notice much; I am insufferably classic/preppy.

Hey, Margaret!

I was shopping all day on Nordstrom's on Sunday, too. I thought I saw you there.

I had to sit down and buy myself an entire fall wardrobe on Sunday. I was determined. I've been running around looking like something the cat drug in for two years now...too fat to fit into my 8 and 10 wardrobe, too stubborn to buy new.

Anyway, so much for online shopping being a 10 minute affair. I spent hours on Nordstroms, and a fair amount of time on Zappos and Coldwater Creek. I usually come over to EA while I'm shopping and chat about it while I'm shopping, but I had to stay focused. Serious business. I needed:

1) clothes that went together to make a "wardrobe"
2) stuff that didn't make me look fat
3) easy to wear and maintain and
4) bargains

Loaded up my cart at Nordstrom's. After about 2 hours (going through every dang item on the site ), my cart totaled $875.00. Then I started pulling stuff out.

They really have amazing values there once things start going on sale. I did very well. If I get a chance today I'll show off what I bought.

Leslie -

I'm allergic to wool and down, too. I suggest silk and Polartec as alternatives. A good pair of silk underwear (leggings and undershirt) is great insulation (I usually buy mine at Eddie Bauer), and Polartec (or Thinsulate) anything is better than wool. Check out Lands End or Eddie Bauer for that stuff.

Andrea
who will have to explain the words bargain and wardrobe many times over when DH sees those credit card bills
