Cool $30 from Amazon

Sort of.

Quote:
For almost a year, we've been working on a new effort which we've
internally called "Ruby." Ruby is almost ready for its public
unveiling. But, before we release it broadly, we wanted to give our
best customers a chance to try it first (warts and all) and give us
feedback.

Ruby is our new Apparel and Accessories store with over 400 major
clothing brands (including Gap, Old Navy, Nordstrom, Lands' End,
Target, Eddie Bauer, Foot Locker, and many more). Our goal is to
provide complete apparel selection and offer it the Amazon way--with
easy navigation, a single shopping cart, your ordering and payment
information already on file, etc. Of course, none of this would be
possible without our many apparel store partners (we're thankful to
have such an amazing group of companies working with us).

The site is fully functional, and we hope you'll try it (you'll get a
$30 promotional certificate when you spend $50 or more in the new
Apparel store--see details below), but what we care most about is
getting your feedback. Please check out the store and reply to this
email to share your thoughts. Here is the special URL:

******http://www.amazon.com/ruby*******

(You won't find the Apparel and Accessories store on the site except
through this link.)

****** http://www.amazon.com/ruby********

Now, I'm reasonably sure that I must have gotten an email about this since I don't know anybody who gives Amazon more money than I do (and then some )... I delete almost all of my promo emails without reading them.

Anyway, my girlfriend forwarded the email to me and I didn't have a problem shopping straight from hers.

Here's my first impressions:

The stores they have picked are great. They are the stores that I usually shop at, top web retailers.

I did spend $50 (how hard is that for me ), in order to get my $30 certificate...but I about fell over at the shipping.

Two different stores (Nordstroms and Eddie Bauer) means twice the shipping, and of course no free shipping coupons to plug in since I was shopping through Amazon. I ended up having to pay $13.96 to ship two pairs of earrings and two pairs of tights.

Never, ever, ever would have done that in a million years if there wasn't a $30 certificate coming my way.

Anyway, thought you guys might like to poke around the link and see what you think of the new apparel section at Amazon. If you find something you like, and you are getting it from one store, and the item is priced well, the $30.00 certificate is a nice perq.

Andrea

P.S. I had to play with the URL to try to get something you can use. Can't use the EA affiliate addition on this thing. You'll have to copy and paste the URL (without **** and epinionaddicts )... or just add /ruby after amazon.com

I saw this, too. I went looking for Land's End to pick up two pair of uniform pants for my daughter. What puzzled me is that you only seemed to be able to purchase certain items from the Amazon Land's End store, and school uniforms weren't one of them.

So, back to the drawing board. The best I can do is about a 3% credit at Upromise, but it's better than nothing.

I was so excited because I shop at many of those stores. Having elderly, sick, and lazy family members (that's three seperate family members, not all adjectives describing one person, BTW), I thought it would be fantastic to just make my wishlist and have everyone just order my gifts online. The Amazon umbrella would make all of the purchases listed in one place (rather than a wishlist on five different websites).

Alas, you can't go into, say, Gap, and add things into your Amazon wishlist.

They should integrate that better.

You can only put Target clothes on your wishlist, I believe.

Well, this is their beta phase, so I wouldn't be surprised if they add a lot more suggestions and options as things go on.

I don't see this as a way that I'd personally like to shop, except on occasion when I'm looking for something specific and want to search the major retailers in one spot. For power shoppers like us though, on a regular basis, eh. I know what I'm shopping for when I go to Nordstroms, Coldwater Creek, Gap, Old Navy, Lands End, Eddie Bauer .... and I love site specific coupons that give me free freight or a percentage off or whatever.

I think this is for the more casual internet shopper who doesn't know where to go. Oh, I think it's a great move. Amazon has lots of people shopping for books online who don't buy anything else online...this is good for the internet economy, it's just not right for me.

(The $30 is worth the Ruby run, though. Thanks Amazon. )

???

Weird, or at least strange.

I posted incorrectly above. My purchases came from Target and Eddie Bauer. Amazon fulfills Target purchases, so it's treated like an Amazon purchase in my account. But, the "track order" link for my Eddie Bauer purchases leads me to this:

https://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/t...745423-1419132

Now, Eddie Bauer did send me an email confirmation of the order, which I guess had the tracking info on it...but how is it a good thing to not have that information available in my Amazon account.

I understand why it is a logistical problem to have all of that tracking info in the Amazon account, but I'm truly at a loss as to why to buy from any of the retailers through Amazon.

I don't save on shipping. I can't use retailer coupons. Tracking my order is way harder than it would have been if I'd just bought from the retailer directly and had that info in my account there.

I'm ready to move this thread over to Business Beat.

(I'm not really trying to track my Eddie Bauer order....I just wanted to see what it looked like in my Amazon account.)

You all might want to check. I received my email with the certificate last week.

You know, I get a lot of emails from Amazon that I don't even read...just delete.

What did the subject line say?

Nah, I've been sending them to the account that doesn't get spam yet. It hasn't gotten there yet. At least, not for me.

And, Andrea, don't fret if you DID delete it. My spam-filled email addy used to be my primary addy for Amazon. Someone sent me a GC when my email was overflowing, and it didn't come through I hadn't gotten around to telling Amazon what happened, when they sent me a reminder that I had money to spend, and resent the code incase I misplaced it!!!

Good service on their part!

The subject line says:

Your Amazon.com $30 Promotional Certificate Is Enclosed

And it started with OrdersatAmazon.com

Okay, I don't think even speedy delete fingers here would have trashed that one.

I'll wait another few days or so and then inquire....

I sent my email to Amazon today asking them where my $30 is.

I really think I might have deleted it. I've got spam software on my work computer (Amazon uses my work addy), and it automatically classifies all Amazon mail as spam.

I probably missed digging it out of the spam folder.

Anybody else still waiting?

Andrea

Andrea, I just got mine like a week ago.

I wouldn't fret yet.

It did say it expired in Feb, however, so I would get anxious if I had to wait too much longer...

I got mine and used it just the other day after I read a review on a walking DVD for me and two CDs for my son--it was great only paying $20 out of my pocket.

I did have two orders that qualified but they were true to their word, "Only one per family".

Happy Shopping.

!sigh

Amazon responded to my email that they'd investigate.

I know that I probably deleted it. I walk into work with almost 100 Spam messages a day. If I'm not careful about what I pull out of my Spam folder...

!sigh

I HATE spam.

Well, guess what? I lost my certificate. I put it in a special folder I have for online orders and it's gone. How?

Well, my computer's been pretty slow and wonky so my daughter's boyfriend (who is a computer genius) came over and completely rehauled the computer. It is working wonderfully now BUT....all my mail and folders have disappeared into cyberspace.

Since I used AOL for the email, I guess that's that! Chit!!!!

Sandy
Who knows the amount of work he did free was really worth a heck of a lot more than $30 but ~~ sigh~~~~

amy, it was the gift certificate for ordering via their beta site, not a regular one

You're right, tom! Just hoping the boy does better when he's working.....he'll need to or he won't be able to afford my daughter!

Sandy
Who hasn't been able to afford her for quite some time and who wishes she'd hurry up and find someone that can!
