| | Cycling! Best place to shop, please? | | I want to buy, online, a gift certificate for my FIL who has taken up cycling pretty seriously. 10+ miles a day. I need a print catalog for him to order from, though...so no FogDog or the like. He doesn't do computers.
The only way a gift certificate will be special is if I find a cool place he didn't know about before. (The man is pretty damn cheap so I doubt he's been haunting high priced places for gear. Gimme something special?) me be cool?

| | Not what you were looking for, but another idea might be cycling magazine subscriptions.
Sorry I'm not more help.
I wonder if Cycle Fitness (the only local shop I can think of a name for has a catelogue). I'm off to search. |

| | No, I don't see a link on the Cycle Fitness home page for a catelogue.
It was worth a shot. |

| | http://www.performancebike.com/shop/order_catalog.html Free catelogue.
Where is your FIL? There are no NJ stores, but there are 3 in MD.
It looks like they'd ship to him anyway. |

He's in Maryland.
Looks like it might be a keeper, unless somebody has a better idea.

| | I'll vouch for Performance. I used to buy from them fairly regularly.
Another good one is Nashbar. They have both online and traditional paper catalogs.

| | Oh yeah. Campmor (which you might remember from all the Coolmax and sleeping pad discussions) has a decent cycling department and often some great deals.

| | Cool.
I'm now on three more catalog mailing lists, and God knows how many times over the name will be sold. Will probably equal 50 catalogs.
Anyway, it's all for a good cause. FIL bikes, SIL is a serious cyclist (has been for years) and Don is talking about taking up the activity, too.
I'll poke around a bit more and figure out whom to buy the GC from.
!thanks
Andrea

| | Wow.
Campmor has outrageously good prices on winter gear for kids/youth.
I can save a bundle over LandsEnd. (Really good selection!)

| | Campmor is known for outrageous deals. And, an excellent selection.
Their retail store is in Paramus, NJ. It's worth a trip if you're ever in the area.

| | Andrea, I just found a cool gift for your biking enthusiast family. It's a little late for Christmas, but, it might make a nice gift for the future:
Grrr!
Link won't work.
Ok. Go to www.redenvelope.com and search for the Swiss Army biking tool. Quote:
swiss army biking tool
This Swiss Army multifunction tool is like having a repair shop along for the ride. Inside, there's a chain rivet setter, a removable 5mm Allen wrench, a tool for adjusting spokes, a 10mm hex key for nuts, and screwdrivers for slotted and Phillips head screws. Plus, there's a large blade, a cap lifter and even a can opener. Measures 3 1/4" x 7/8" x 1". Exclusively from RedEnvelope.

Love you. I procrastinated doing anything about this gift, other than buying two books off of Amazon.
I just bought the tool to ship directly to my father-in-law, and printed the pages to wrap up for Christmas.
Okay, I know that's lame...but he'll have two books and a picture of the tool.
