| | and was pleasantly surprised. I figured it would be a mob scene and full of cranky salespeople. Instead, it was just busy enough to be fun and even the employees seemed to be in a good mood.
The littlest one finally got brave enough to go see Santa which was the reason for venturing out. I also had to get a gift for my tax client cause they called me up and said they had something for the family again this year. When we got to the mall, a high school band was playing carols on the second floor. It really helped set the mood. We didn't have to wait in line to see Santa, and Santa was a real charmer. The littlest freaked right in front of Santa and fell on the floor at his feet in tears. In no time at all, he charmed her right onto his lap and I got a smiling picture of her.
Then, another high school group of singers and dancers started performing and we went upstairs to watch that. The girls loved the show. They also loved that the "stars" ate lunch in the mall food court where we had our own lunch. The way the girls acted, you would have thought they were dining with Madonna or Sting and not some local high schoolers.
Then, we went to the chocolate shop where the girls always get free samples :yum: and got the tax client a small gift. I wrapped it up by sneaking off to Waldenbooks where they had a buy 2 get one free deal on Dr Seuss books. Amazon had messed up one of our book orders for the girls; so 3 books evened out our uneven gift problem.
Finally, we headed for home. Littlest one managed to get her finger caught in the mall door. It is sore and red now. I told her I was sorry she got hurt and she informed me that it wasn't my fault - it was the door's.
So, we had a very inexpensive, very fun day at the Mall less than a week before Christmas. Imagine that
Amy

| | Wow. My first thought when I saw "went to the mall today" was "my sympathies." Sounds like a good time was had by all.

who has to go to the mall yet and will probably do so at 7am Monday morning

We're going tomorrow because my husband still has not bought my Christmas presents.

| | GO EARLY. I worked in malls for 10 years. Get there as soon as the stores open. Know exactly where you're going. Get out before 12:30pm.

| | Good for you!
Mark the day on your calendars, friends.... I have to go REAL WORLD SHOPPING tomorrow.
This is my annual pilgrimage to Kmart to fill in stuff, like wrapping paper and odds and ends that I need for Christmas. I do it every year and I survive it every year, just barely.
There's no way you can plan every tiny detail of a Christmas at home with children and relatives well enough to complete everything online.
One year, I will.

OFCOL, I have no time for that. As soon as Christmas is over, I have to move onto the next thing.
We've got a host of things due for school, directly after Christmas break including some insect puppet project ..... which reminds me.... I have to go see if I can buy an insect puppet kit online.

| | Amy - what a delightful story! I refuse to enter a mall from mid November thru mid January, but I may need to re-think my ways! Glad you had a fun day! Sorry about the little one's finger. She sounds like a real trooper though! If you can - please share the Santa photos with us!

I don't need to take over Amy's thread with yet another pluckyduck whine session about school projects.
When will anyone at the school understand that this family is verbal and mathmatical? We don't do arts and crafts!
!sigh
Now, let's go back to talking about Amy.
Andrea
who can't find a kit to buy and might have to pin wings on a sock

| | I sure do "love" off topic when is one of the boys responsible.
So off topic from the off topic.....
My daughter and I also went to the mall Wednesday and had a great time. Santa wanted to sit on her lap and threw a fit when she didn't want him any where near her 27 year old lap.
I was pleasantly surprised at the smiles and attitudes of the shoppers there. I also found a parking place quite near an entrance and no one shoved, pinched or pushed me even once. I do worry on an economical level about the lack of people compared to past Christmas's but it was very nice for us. We enjoyed the shopping, the music and ate at the Coney without even waiting in line anywhere.
My daughter talked me into buying my first leather jacket (for my Christmas gift from my husband I've been the last family hold out on wearing leather (and for some reason I can't open the additional smilies to insert the whip)
The only bad experience we had was at Bebe. There were two of the rudest sales persons there that you can imagine. My daughter who shops there enough to have been invited to their friends and family day was ignored while they took their time playing with some tangled necklaces, talked on the phone to an assumed boyfriend while she stood there with the item she was buying and cash in her hand. She will speak to the manager and I'm emailing the home office online. It sounds like nothing but you haven't lived until you've been ignored by a Bebe clerk! My daughter has never seen them and assumes they must be extra holiday helpers, but elves they weren't. They got even more rude when I mentioned that we'd been waiting in line a long time (while they waited on people around us.) The answer was "Gee, we're just so busy tonight." Not! Since my daughter is a fashion plate (and I'm not) I thought maybe they were acting prejudiced because of me but she said no, the one girl had been rude to her when she was in the dressing room too. I hate Bebe and maybe they felt my hostility. It's way too expensive and "with it" it for me.
But, on the whole, it was one of the nicer Christmas shopping in real store experiences we've had.

| | Well (back on topic) online shopping was off the charts this year. I'll dig up the links later, but the growth is impressive.
Might be contributing to better mall experiences, everywhere but Bebe. :p
