| | So, is anyone getting up early to brave the rabid crowds at 7:00 tomorrow morning? 50% off!!
My mom told me this afternoon that she'd pick me up at 6:30 so that we could have a good time stocking up on gifts for next year. We did this last year, and while I enjoyed spending time with her, she's one of the most energetic shoppers I know. After a few hours, I'm ready to collapse and she's just getting started.
Does anyone else participate in this particular form of insanity? I'd rather pay full price for wrapping paper in December, buy just enough for my gifts and use it all up, than buy it in January and have it take up closet space all year long.

| | We're going shopping after my husband pops into work for a urinalysis. I've scoped out the things that I want/need, with their pre-Christmas price so I'm wondering just how good the deals will be. This is the first time I've gone shopping the day after Christmas so I have no idea what it will be like.

| | Well - I do have a lot of shopping to do, but I won't go to the stores for another 2 weeks. Hate the crowds. Besides - I'm at work today. I'm the only one here so far - and when I logged on - I was the only one at EA so far. Guess lots of people are shopping! |

| | I'm usually one of those nuts getting 1/2 price xmas stuff, but I don't do it at 7am. I get the wrapping paper, the cards, tissue paper, xmas decorations, xmas clothes (like Santa hats, snowman sweaters and CHRISTMAS SOCKS! YAY FOR CHRISTMAS SOCKS!). But this year I still have plenty of cards and wrapping paper left, the last thing I need in this teeny apartment is more decorations (well, maybe a wreath), and it snowed like crazy last night so I don't think I'll be heading to Target this year.

| | My son wanted to go to the mall today, but I may just send him with his sister.
My dad's and my daughter's birthdays are in the first two weeks of January, so I'll have to go shopping eventually. |

| | Lucky you - we Americans only get Christmas off. (Ironic considering how much we get our undies in bundles about public support of religious holidays.)

| | My son just got back from the malls and said there are no real sales out there.
Online I checked a Sears After Xmas Sale (online)and the big items came down $10 and the smaller stuff $5.
That's a sale?

| | I was not impressed with the so-called "sales" though I did get a leather jacket for a little more than half off (but it was half off before Christmas ). We went at 8 am; partly due to the early hour, partly due to the foot of snow we got yesterday, and partly due to other people having to work, the mall was pleasantly uncrowded, though we did have to wait in line at the Hallmark store.

| | My mom was at my house at 7:30 a.m. and we were back home by 1:00. I bought 2 manicure sets for niece birthday gifts ($8.50 marked down from $30), a set of flannel sheets ($19.99 marked down from $120), and lunch. It was okay and my gift shelf is replenished for the next few months. And (best of all), I had time to take an afternoon nap.

| | I went yesterday, but NOT first thing in the morning! We went about 1:00, and even though we were at a Super WalMart, it wasn't nearly as crowded as I was expecting - and they still had a lot of nice gift sets left.
Went to Bed, Bath & Beyond today, got a nice cushy kitchen mat for $5 - it has a snowman scene, so it was "Christmas" and therefore 1/2 off. Also picked up a Wilton gingerbread house kit for $5 - something fun for the kids to do after I get it started.
Went to KMart today, and I think they're going to have a lot of nice markdowns, but are being slow about actually marking them down. Plus, I was in a store I don't usually go to, don't know the layout very well, and couldn't find things as well as I can in my regular store.

| | What I love is the candy aisle. Hubby is a chocolate fiend and all the Xmas Hershey Kisses, Reeses Cups, and the like get marked down because they're in red and green wrappers. Like that makes any difference in the taste of the chocolate!

| | Hi there! Check out THESE bargains!!! | | First off I'd like to thank Amy for helping me figure out what was wrong. I have tried (unsuccessfully) for 5 days to comment here and she figured out the problem! YEAH AMY!!!
now on to the bargains......I too hit WAL MART but only for tissue paper, boxes and a couple of Christmas craft books.......grand total came to under $20.00 for 3 packages of 90 count colored tisse paper, 3 packages 10 ct Christmas boxes and 2 books regularly priced at $15 each........all were at least 75% off....not bad! ((for those of you who said...."Christmas craft books?!?!.......they are GREAT to have during the summer when kids say "I have NOTHING to do"...........!drag out the books and make Christmas gifts when yo have the time........in fact, buy your supplies NOW and pack them away in ziplock bags.....makes for a nice summer change!))
I then traveled across the highway to our local YOUNKERS where I snatched up Christmas cotton placemats for 70% off regular price...PLUS since I was there BEFORE noon I got an extra 30% off AND I had coupons for another 15% off......for 6 placemats regularly priced at $7 each, a $25 red tablerunner, 2 matching cloth napkins (regularly priced $6 each), a box of 18 count cards originally priced at $15, and a POLO T-shirt which was $35 originally I spent only about $23.00............less than the table runner originally! I was psyched! For those of you who figured these prices up......some had extra markdowns for one reason or another....doesn't really matter though....I got the bargains!
THEN I strolled across the parking lot to DILLARDS and snatched up a LIZ CLAIBORNE purse originally priced at $59 for $13 and 2 boxes of cards ready to computer printed next year with my message............the cards were originally $15 a box and I got them for $4.50 each......not bad!
Anyway....so far that is the crux of my bargains ....I found a link the other day for bath and bodyworks.......I can't get back on it again though but I think if you simply sign op for their newsletter you will then be directed to a page with a coupon for a freebie with purchase..........I'll keep trying to find the link....when I do I'll post it! If anyone else finds it let me know.........it's a good one!
happy shopping!

| | 50% off doesn't do anything for me, especially when I know they marked it up just as much.
After Christmas sales just aren't that great when the stores know they are going to get crowds no matter what.
It's after the season is long gone, once the stores take inventory and know they can't depend on crowds anymore.....or they go out of business..... that you see the real 70%-80% mark-downs. |

| | Scored my first real holiday bargain. http://www.boscovs.com:80/commerce/d...3KTNJNF9MC99F6
Large cloth tablecloths
for $3.99 (60 x102)
I bought a bunch of them, and napkins to match some of them for $1.19.
These aren't fine tablecloths, they'll just be fun to have on the table next year... and actually throughout this winter.
BTW, if you are interested in buying yourself, Boscov's is a very odd place to buy. The site is clunky. Shipping is a flat $8.95 no matter what you buy, no matter how much (except furniture or very bulky items). They email the crap out of you with status... but their prices can't be beat.

| | Actually, I'm wondering if you can take the receipts back to the stores from the stuff you bought before Christmas,........to get the price difference of how much the merchandise was marked down after Christmas.
I don't know if I phrased that right. I bought a ton of stuff less than a month before Christmas and I always save my receipts. I'm assuming all of my purchases have been marked down at this time for the after Christmas sales.
I want to collect that price difference---in cash preferably!
Anyone else tried this? |

| | Did that once with a pair of boots. My boyfriend got me boots, but they were off by 1/2 size. When I went back to the store to exchange them for the right size, I saw the boots had gone on sale. I asked if I could get the difference in cash and was told "no." So I said "Fine, I'll be returning these boots instead of exchanging them. Then I'll get the right size from the salesperson and come back here to the register to buy the right size at the lower price." Cashier grumbled but did the exchange AND refund of the difference.
Macy's, The Gap, and other big chain stores have a policy that when an item goes on sale, you can bring back what you bought with the receipt and they'll refund you the difference. Some have time limits (e.g. you must have bought the original item within the past two weeks) and might have different policies for Christmas, but it's worth a shot if it's a lot of money and you're willing to take the time to do it.
