Shop Till You Drop! Yeah. I know you're not supposed to shop online using company resources. But, if you're going to do it, you may as well save some money.

Furniture

So, does shipping make it just too foolish to shop for furniture online?

I can't find the bunk bed that we want for our son locally. Dare I order it online?

And do you expert shoppers have a suggestion for where to shop? I've seen what I want at IKEA, but the closest IKEA is six hours away.

This is what we're looking for:

And then we'd install a desk underneath it. But any loft bed with this concept (the desk underneath) would work.

Re: Furniture

If money and shipping were no object, I'd be tempted to get this:

Doesn't that look fun?

Re: Furniture

I've seen a lot of fun bunk beds like that. Saw one that looked like a pirate ship the other day. I ooooooh'ed but hubby commented that it wouldn't be so cool when the Poopster was eight years old and his friends wanted to know why he sit slept in a pirate bed.

(The Poopster already has a bed and we're not in the market for a new one, but I can't help looking.)

Personally, I wouldn't worry too much about shipping costs as any furniture store is going to charge for delivery. Unless you think you can get it home yourself from a place like Ikea, it seems like it's six o' one, half a dozen o' the other.

There are lots of loft beds like that around. I'll look around and post any likely ones I see.

Re: Furniture

I have to remember that these don't come with mattresses.

And look at this one:

Can you imagine sliding out of bed each morning? I almost want one for me.

Re: Furniture

Ikea ships - you might check it out. I ordered a sleeper sofa online and shipping was only $100 or so. I don't think it is cost prohibitive, but there is definitely a value of time tradeoff consideration.

Re: Furniture

I may just have to work on hubby.

I know we bought the Poopster a bed last year, but I'm having buyer's regret. I want one of these.

I know these aren't what you're looking for, but they sure are cute:

Theme Beds

I bet the Poopster would like this one:

Re: Furniture

I got a check that I wasn't expecting for working concessions at the Shake Fest this summer, so I figured I'd spend it on redecorating my son's room (to say nothing of the fact that he really has outgrown his toddler bed--which is why he keeps sleeping on the floor rather than on his bed).

But boy it is going to be hard, hard, hard to stay in budget. I guess I'm glad I can't use a credit card, eh?

Re: Furniture

Oh, man. The Poopster would like a lot of those!

A dump truck bed!
A digger bed!
A fire engine bed!

We might even get him to want to go to bed with those.

Naaaaaaah. He's too smart for that.

Re: Furniture

Man, I'd stick with these beds - better than the stuff I posted yesterday I think.

Would it be wierd for me to buy one for no reason other than a play place for ME?

LOL

Re: Furniture

I won't tell. You notice that I'm buying this bed while my son is away for a week and not able to give input, don't you?

Re: Furniture

Do you have "The Bed Room" locally? We have one, but I think it's just a local store, I don't *think* it's a chain. But it might be. Anyway, they have that first one with the slide and the tent. Only objection I have to it is that the slide is *very* narrow and won't be fun for very long - it would be the equivalent of an adult trying to slide down a 2x6.

Oh, and not every furniture store charges for delivery. We ordered a bunk bed two years ago from a local place (The Bed Room, in fact) and they not only delivered for free, they SET IT UP for free!

Re: Furniture

I talked to hubby on the phone finally (he's enjoying his week off--stayed in bed reading Dorothy Sayers until about a half hour ago). We're going to look at some local furniture stores and then I'm going to drag him into my office to look at all the pictures in this thread.
