You guys remember the roach clip hair accessories from the 80s? Roach clip with cheesy leather shoelace material, which held a few pony beads and feathers? 
I used to wear them all the time.
Margaret, who has honestly never used a roach clip for the intended purpose. At least, not that she remembers. |

Margaret - the intended purpose of an alligator clip is electrical.
The "roach clip" aspect is a "bonus feature."

Yep, Margaret, I remember them vividly! I had one, and I think my MOM had one, IIRC!  Then she found out what the clip part was associated with, and had a bit of struggle with her conscience about whether or not I could wear mine any more. She finally decided I could - everyone knew that *most* of them were just decorative, not really used as marijuana clips.

Oh, I had them to light candles. Hey, if there was ever an emergency, I was prepared!
Margaret, who doesn't smoke any more, but, still has a stash of about 15 lighters in her glove compartment (why did I never seem to have any when I smoked?) |

I found another one, not as pretty but just functional here: http://www.claspmaster.com/
I have also seen ones that have a flat base and a curved top (I can't really describe it, and I can't find a picture) but they require a flat surface and would take up more room.
