| | Help - I need an idea | | Coworker #2 (the one that I do like) is having surgury today. She'll probably be in the hospital till Sun or Monday and then be at home recuperating for about a month.
I want to send her something, and think maybe I'll send it next week to her home. THe problem is that without sounding cheap, I'm really trying not to spend a lot. If I can get something for under $25, that would be great. Flowers just die. I was going to send something from Cookies by Design. They are yummy, but $35 will get me only 2 cookies delivered, and once she eats them, there is nothing left.
Any ideas of what to send? She likes chocolate, reading and teddy bears. This should be a get will gift with a slight holiday twist.
I appreciate the help. You all can be quite creative!
Thanks! |

| | Re: Help - I need an idea | | Books would be mondo cool, especially since she'll be stuck at home for a month.

| | Re: Help - I need an idea | | That's what I thought, except we don't really have the same taste in books and I can't get her a certificate because she can't get out and has no monitor for her computer at home. I did loan her 3 books yesterday, so ......... I'm not sure where that leaves me. I even thought of a membership to netflix, but if she doesn't have a computer at home (her son does, but locks his door ) then I don't know how she could use that either. |

| | Re: Help - I need an idea | | Make a casserole. If she's going to be laid up for a month, she probably can't cook. Casseroles are the traditional American Protestant way of handling pain and suffering. They help feed families who can't feed themselves very well. The bigger the casserole, the better.
Also, when I was home and my mom was laid up, I got her a crossword puzzle magazine. Everyone likes crosswords.

| | Re: Help - I need an idea | | How about a flowering plant or a green plant that won't die?
And can you stop by and deliver it in person? Maybe she has an errand or two that you can offer to run for her or just your sunny personality would be a good pickme up for her.

Casserole. She's a Hungarian Meat Eater. I'm a Jewish Vegetarian. I'm not sure our food styles mesh. I could make a basket for her. A book, some puzzle books, chocolate. That might work. I could deliver it to her one night after work when she's out of the hospital.
Thanks. |

| | Re: Help - I need an idea | | Thanks, Lynn. She was just laughing about how she kills plants. I had given her a fern a while back - dead. Luckily for her birthday I bought her a silk ficus. Can't kill that. I did tell her that I would be glad to help her by going for groceries, etc. Her son is not much help, and she has no other family around. I know that she LOVES Boston Market Chicken. Maybe I can stop by with a small basket and also buy her a complete Boston Market dinner. That way she'll have food she likes and leftovers. |

| | Re: Help - I need an idea | | How about one of those personalized teddy bears? You can get the small ones for about $25-30 (or could last time I looked).
