| | I recently found out about a new shopping place: http://www.woot.com
The deal is, they only sell ONE item every day. And once they're out, they're out, and they don't post anything until the next day. I think they do occasionally have a special posting, but in general that's the way they operate.
For instance, today they have a Kensington Pro Gaming Mouse (optical) plus a copy of Splinter Cell for only $9.99 plus $5.00 shipping and handling. I don't know a lot about the two, but that sounds like a great deal to me if you like that sort of stuff.

| | Today's offering:
The Friendly Robotics RL500 Robomower. I see it on Froogle ranging anywhere from $297 to $525 -offered today on Woot for only $179.99 plus $5 shipping.
No, I'm not affiliated with them, but this looks like a GREAT deal!

Did you read the about Woot page? Quote:
Will I receive customer support like I'm used to?
No. Well not really. If you buy something you don’t end up liking or you have what marketing people call “buyers remorse,” sell it on ebay. It’s likely you’ll make money doing this and save everyone a hassle. If the item doesn't work, find out what you’re doing wrong. Yes, we know you think the item is bad, but it’s probably your fault. Google your problem, or come back to that product's topic in our community and ask other people if they know. Try to call the manufacturer and ask if they know. If you give up and must return it to us, then follow on to the next FAQ entry.

What are my shipping options and how can I track my order?
Currently, your shipping options are limited. An item can ship if you order it, or not ship if you don't. We will ship by common carrier and try to stick with the same service for most items. Right now, we are making Fed-Ex happy, but depending on a particular item, we could change to save cost. Regardless of shipping method, you will get a tracking email once your order ships.

| | I tried to buy once during a grab bag. The first grab bag people got Tivos and other good things for like $1. So, I tried on Grabbag 2 but they lost my order.
I'd try them again, but, there really hasn't been anything I can justify paying money for. I don't need a mouse, keyboard, robosapien, etc. |

| | The site is really funny.
Here's their description of a sweeper vac: Quote:
Let's have a show of hands: anybody out there enjoy cleaning? Onerous chores like scrubbing, sweeping, dusting, vacuuming - are these your idea of fun ways to spend a weekend? If so, congratulations. Aren't you special? After you get tired of patting yourself on the back, go get some professional psychiatric care.
For the rest of us, here comes this slender seductress, combining two of today's most desired cleaning tools into one irresistible whole. Lazy slobs everywhere, rejoice! With its uber-cool "electrostatic" powers, the Swiffer cloth grabs hold of dust, pollen, animal hair, cocaine, Dorito crumbs, dandruff, insect remains, and all the other microscopic debris just waiting to inflame your sinuses. Then, just when the larger chunks of gunk let their guards down, BAM! Hit the Dust Devil switch and goodnight, ladies! You've got a clean floor, an improved chance of luring a mate, and plenty of time for the five o'clock rerun of Family Matters - around here we call that the good life.

lol woot, or otherwise knows as w00t LOL | I've seen "w00t" (spelled that way) in various places. Never knew what it meant. Anyone know the origin and/or meaning of the word? (In the comments section at Atrios, someone using that name always posts pictures of "boobies" -- though the "boobies" there are a type of bird, which I guess is a double pun. But is that what it means elsewhere? 00 = breasts = boobies = (punned) bird?? I thought it was just something that the Atrios comments section guy made up, but from Sooner's reaction, apparently not.) |

| | Woot the word has been around longer than the site. I've always just used the word as an expression of happiness, or excitement. But, it's more online speak than real life. When I catch myself saying "woot!" outloud I am as embarassed as when I've caught myself saying "lol" outloud.
I think w00t is just the 1337 or "leet" version of the word. Little hacker and script kiddies talk like that. Amy did something with that for one of her April Fool's pranks. |

| | I *think* I read somewhere that, for the site at least, it means "Wow! Loot!" or something like that. Of course, I think it's pretty obvious that it's a usage of the internet "wOOt" and they came up with something to make it fit to.

| | Wow, that was a good price on the sweeper vac. The best I could find was $32 on Besttag.com. (At least I think that was the site-it appears to be something related to Yahoo, and it was the first site on the list when I searched the sweeper by name.

| | The origin of "w00t!" is unclear, but it is definitely rooted in multiplayer gamer slang.
When you beat the other team, or accomplish something you're particularly happy about... "w00t!"
I'd heard that it had to do with hackers gaining root access to a machine, but I can't find confirmation of that anywhere, so it is likely inaccurate. |

| | Seems to be a WOOT-off today.
Orange flashy things and an orange meter-bar which is dropping.
Oh and this is the second thing I've seen this morning and the comments are about WOOT-off, so I'm hoping something better will show up when this one is done.

| | The woot-off started yesterday. I'm waiting for the BoC's to be listed, but I'll probably miss it because I have to run around today.

| | We have been watching for BOCs too. ALL DAY yesterday. ALL DAY today. I even have the kids watching while I pee, just in case.
Board comments said they'd be today. But who knows when? |

| | I know - I've been reading. Someone suggested between 3 and 4 and I hope they are right because I'll be home then. I have to go watch Zack sing, and then to help the kindergarten writing class, so I wont be home before noon. (And its snowing like a bandit out there.)

| | Yeah, you can watch from the main page. The "random crap" will come up, a picture of a paper bag with a question mark on it. And if you suddenly check and get service unavailable, or something similar, refresh like crazy! Servers crash when the BOC goes up, and if you're lucky and they haven't already sold out, you might be able to get through. There's controversy over whether it's worth the extra screen to say you want to buy three as opposed to one, and whether you'll get anything extra for buying three, but it's a chance you have to take.
Last time it came up during the afternoon on day two, so I'm guessing it'll be sometime this afternoon. Unfortunately we have our unit holiday party this morning from two until four or so, so I'm guessing I'm going to miss it.
Anybody gotten anything good yet?
