| | Diamond Class Action Suit | | I'm really not sure where to put this... shopping forum... because if you bought diamonds you were shopping... current events because this is one...
Oh well, move it if you think it's more appropriate somewhere else. https://diamondsclassaction.com/Consumer.htm
DeBeers is settling a class-action suit.
If you submit your Claim Form via mail, it must be postmarked no later than May 19, 2008 and addressed to: Diamonds Claims Administrator, P.O. Box 9432, Minneapolis, Minnesota 55440–9432.
If you submit your claim via the online Claim Form at www.diamondsclassaction.com, the Claim Form must be completed and electronically submitted no later than 11:59 pm Pacific Standard Time, May 19, 2008.
I have to go search for receipts... I think I bought three diamond rings, a diamond cross, and a tennis bracelet in this time period.
Edit... actually, now that I think about it, I bought a lot more when it comes to gifts. I'm thinking I have to go to the store where I worked and have them print out all my receipts from diamond purchases. I don't actually need the receipts at this point in time, but, I do need an accurate estimate of the amount of money I spent on diamond purchases.

| | Re Diamond Class Action Suit | | Holy Schnikes! Thanks, Margaret! I hadn't heard about this, but we have my engagement ring, G's wedding band, plus a necklace, earrings, and ring purchased during that time. |

| | Re Diamond Class Action Suit | | This is interesting... I bought a ring that is heavily featured in the advertisements for the store I used to work it. It was always on sale, and always for $1999. It's now $1699, despite the fact that gold costs more per ounce now than it ever cost when I worked there. I'm guessing DeBeers had to slash the price on the diamonds and stores are passing it on now? I'm dying to know what retail price is on that ring now. My price would have been about 1/4 to 1/3 retail. I overpaid!!!
I am sure I got a good deal though. I'm certain my ring is a mistake. I bought it when it first came into the store because I thought the diamonds were great for the price. They were good sized, they were very clean, and the color was good. They also looked like the carat was way off. I was paying for one carat but, it looked like it should be at least 1.5 carat to my semi-educated eye. Once I bought my ring, they sent us another one. The diamonds were TINY compared to mine.
Mine has 3 emerald cut diamonds, one big one in the middle, and two smaller ones on the side. Around the 3 emerald cut diamonds are round melees. The two smaller emerald stones were about 1/3 the size of the ones on my ring. Not to mention the stones on the second ring weren't eye clean, which mine were. We got the ring in a few more times while I was still there, and we never had one with stones as big and as clean as mine.
Although my store doesn't offer the ring in anything bigger than 1 carat, the vendor does. And they can sell it with higher quality diamonds too. I'll bet anything my ring was a mess up! |

| | Re Diamond Class Action Suit | | I despise diamonds, but I forwarded your link to my mom and sisters and MIL - I now they all have plenty of bling. |

| | Re Diamond Class Action Suit | | What I haven't figured out is if each purchase counts seperately, or if each purchase counts as its own entity.
I read on the site that the max payout is $640, which is a percentage of a $2000 purchase. So... is my max payout based on a per item basis, or is it based on tallying all my items together? Maybe it will be more clear when I go through the act of submitting my claim. I'm stopping by my old store tonight to get receipts (I don't even remember all the stuff I purchased, tbh...)
I also was surprised, from reading the site, that a mixed stone piece counts as a diamond purchase, if it had diamonds in it. For example, if you bought a sapphire ring with diamond melees around it, I think you can claim. I doubt you get much, but you can claim. (The reason I'm surprised is that melees are really not worth much of anything.) |

| | Re Diamond Class Action Suit | | My understanding was that the pieces were assigned a percentage of value.. that the $640 was actually what would be assigned to the item it it was $2000, and then they go from there. The minimum payout is $10 and they walked you through what the minimum would be at a certain percent. They aren't giving you $640 back on a $2000 purchase... and it's a portion of the assigned value to your total purchases. They don't give you the assigned value... initial step is just to enter your pieces.
But what's odd is that they didn't ask for any further description. For example, my engagement ring has a more valuable setting than the diamond (antique platinum setting). You'd think they'd want to know that. |

| | Re Diamond Class Action Suit | | Good luck you guys. I've never received more than less than pennies back on any class action suit I've been a part of. Usually the return is just not worth the hassle. That being said, I'm always hopeful that someone else will actually profit from one. |

| | Re Diamond Class Action Suit | | I bought more stuff than I remembered, but, I also paid less money for it than I remembered too.
My claim is only $3011.
Filling it out is easy. There's a drop down and you select say... "Diamond Anniversary Ring" and then you pick "diamonds" or "mixed stones" and then you enter the price you paid. Then you add your next item.
My mom has a lot of purchases she made for me at various stores, some of which aren't here any more. I hope she kept receipts. | | |
