Pope "terror" snub angers Israel

I didn't make up the headline, so don't blame me for it if you don't like it.

Israel has summoned the Vatican's ambassador to explain why the Pope left the country off a list of those recently hit by terrorism.

Quote:
The foreign ministry said it would be interpreted as "granting legitimacy to... terrorist attacks against Jews".
A lot of me understands where Israel is coming from regarding this, and, at the same time, part of me can't help but wonder if that's not being a tad hyper-sensitive.

Re Pope "terror" snub angers Israel

Looks like a matter of semantics -
Quote:
Pope Benedict XVI on Sunday deplored attacks in "countries including Egypt, Turkey, Iraq and Britain".
Using "including" means he knows there's a list of countries, and *some* of those countries happen to be Egypt, etc...

Re Pope "terror" snub angers Israel

Given that Israel has been the country attacked by terrorists most often and most consistently in recent decades, it seems rather a glaring omission.

Which is one reason as to why I understand where Israel is coming from.
