Re FBI Pushes for more invasion of privacy and erosion of rights | | Just on its face this is really a bad idea. The basis of our criminal justice system is that there must be a clear justification for investigating anyone -- fishing expeditions are not allowed. The DoJ inspector general can say there have been no abuses, and I'm sure that remark has been carefully tailored to be a response only to the issue of security letters, but we all know there have been outright abuses and some pretty questionable efforts by the DoJ (at least those of us who read the papers).
It's far past the time that Congress woke up to this. |
