| | So if you randomly got a $2.5 million check you wouldn't check up on it to see why you got it and if you should have in the first place?

| | size matters Quote:
One criminal defense attorney said that in this instance, size matters.
"The larger the mistake, the more difficult it is to successfully argue you reasonably believed that you were entitled to the money," said Burnsville lawyer Howard Bass. "If you get a check for 10 bucks, you might thing you are entitled to it. If it's some astronomical figure, a reasonable person would not believe they were entitled to it." |

Walker also allegedly bought two cars, called the state to report the check, then bought two more cars, prosecutors said.
| Okay, she calls it in, then continues to spend the money? Quote: |
bought a $500,000 certificate of deposit, funded two retirement accounts, bought a $500,000 Treasury bond, spent $5,500 on jewelry, $3,817 at Best Buy and $2,069 on limousine services, according to the criminal complaint.
| Well, at least she was being prudent with her mistaken gains.
I want to know why the bank didn't raise a few flags. My bank puts stuff on hold if it just out of state, never mind being about $2.49999999999 million dollars more than any check I've ever brought in before.

| | I guess the next time I play Monopoly, I'll have to not cash in that the bank made an error in your favor card. |

| | A friend of mine once thought he'd hit the jackpot at the ATM. He punched in to withdraw $100 from his checking account, but the machine just kept on spitting out $20s. Way more than the $100 he'd requested. But there's no such thing as free money. The bank deducted all the 'free money' from his checking account. |

| | It's a crime to be dumb enough to think the money was yours and cash the check.

Exactly what I was thinking earlier but I couldn't think to put it as succinctly.
