His attorney is saying that since he was on his way to Congress for a vote he was privileged from arrest.

Trying to get out of reprehensible activity on such a technicality will only get people even angrier.

He should go.

I must admit I'm enjoying the drama of this. If this were a novel or an opera, Craig would be a very interesting character, playing out his personal demons on a public world stage. I wonder at his motivation. Is he seeking more punishment and humiliation? Or is his addiction to power so great that he cannot loosen his grasp, no matter how hopeless and how damaging it is to hang on? Or is he simply arrogant, believing that he will win in the end if he only stays the course?

I chalk it up to arrogance and listening too much to fawning flunkies. The guy has certainly not read the polls which are overwhelmingly in favor of his resigning.

When a politician's personal scandals become the headline, when they become distractions from the business of government, then the politician is no longer doing his job and he should go.

I feel sorry for the guy. He's 62. He would have been 10 years old at the time of the infamous 'Boys of Boise' sex scandal which ruined the lives of a number of closeted gay men in that town and 21 when a book on the case brought it all up again. I'm sure he learned from all that that the only way to be was completely closeted and self denying. Our culture strikes again.

I'm with you on this.

I'm also a privacy kind of girl.

I also get peeved when we are supposedly experiencing police shortages and they are wasting their time in men's bathrooms in airports. I can understand in the parks and schools where children are, but how many children wander aimlessly into men's bathrooms? Who are we protecting, here?

He responded disingenuously, so I can see why people are up in arms and I feel extra sorry for his wife.

I would say the cops are protecting men using that bathroom who either a) don't want to be solicited for sex and/or b) don't want to see someone having sex when they're trying to take care of their business. I think we deserve as much protection from that as women and children, but that's just my opinion.

Oops, I dropped the ball on that one. You're right, Brian. Having been treated to more nature than I'd planned on during one of our nature hikes, I totally agree with you. The men in our group reacted as badly as the women (and woman with children!) did.

I agree totally with Brian, but I have a 12 year old who occasionally travels with us. His dad or one of his brothers escorts him into the men's room when we fly, but I'd rather he didn't witness this either. Kids may not randomly wander into airport bathrooms, but they do travel.

As a mother who travels sometimes with a 14 year old son while hubby stays home, I want him to be able to go to a men's room without being subjected to men propositioning each other. He's too old to go to the women's room but he's still just 14.

It's not a matter of Craig being gay or bi. It's that he was trying to have sex in a public place.

Just to clarify, I said nothing about protecting women. If two women want to hit each other up for fun in a bathroom, I could care less.

I don't think people should have sex in bathrooms... I was assuming they'd take it elsewhere.

My understanding is that they would do it right there, in the bathroom, although I'm not sure exactly how that would work -- it seems one would have to be quite acrobatic. Anyway, I think that's what the cop was referring to when he made the observation about Craig using his suitcase to block the bottom of the stall from view.

Although I just finished objecting to a gender stereotype in another thread (the stereotype that women are not interested in mathematics), this is one gender generalization that I heartily support as being accurate: Women (gay, straight, bi, whatever), with very very very few exceptions, would not want to have sex in a public bathroom. It's just too smelly and too gross.
