Ron Paul Supporters: Bats&*t Insane?

Not you, Leslie!

I have to say, though, this is the WEIRDEST campaign I've ever seen, and I mean on a local level. The only signs I've seen for Ron Paul until this morning were painted with tempera paint on corrugated cardboard and stapled to light posts.

Today, as I was driving to Bug's parent-teacher conference? There was SHEET hanging on an OVERPASS also done with tempera paint that simply said "Google Ron Paul 08."

In terms of rendering, the 5th graders at the kids' school do more professional looking campaign posters for their elections.

Is this part of the campaign as a whole or just the nutters in my town? And while it may appeal to the younger voters, I can't see anyone over the age of say, 30, finding bedsheet campaigning appealing.

Re Ron Paul Supporters: Bats&*t Insane?

There's a huge hand-painted sign on the outskirts of our little unincorporated town. It's so big that you can't miss it, but it's definitely less "professional" than the slicked up Hilary signs that are everywhere (I haven't seen one "mainstream" Republican sign here yet, strange as that seems.)

It's totally grassroots, so I'm thinking the supporters are using whatever tools they have, which may not include more than the sheet off their beds....

Re Ron Paul Supporters: Bats&*t Insane?

It's grassroots, not crazy. This is a man scaling the polls by the Internet, word of mouth and bedsheet/cardboard signs alone, it seems. It's very in keeping with the ideal of a self-made American, in my mind.

Re Ron Paul Supporters: Bats&*t Insane?

We've had the bedsheet signs on overpasses for Ron Paul for months. We also have them for every soldier who returns home and a lot of other reasons (most famously, "Save the OBI" - reference to a bar that wasn't paying taxes).

(Anyone else have to struggle not to type or say "RuPaul" instead of Ron Paul?)

I don't think I have yet typed his name, but yes, the mental image I get EVERY TIME is that of RuPaul.

Now see, every time I mention Ron Paul to G, he says "LOVE his rotisserie." HE thinks Ron Popeil.

Re Ron Paul Supporters: Bats&*t Insane?

This cardboard-and-paint method has been referred to, in the Bush years, as "highway blogging", among other things, and was previously used for protests, as well as welcoming people home, especially military.

Cheap, and it gets the message out as well as a professional sign. Anyone impressed by presentation alone is probably not the target audience anyway.

Re Ron Paul Supporters: Bats&*t Insane?

Back to the batshit insane...

Quote:
EVANSVILLE, Ind. (AP) - Federal agents raided the headquarters of a group that produces illegal currency and puts it in circulation, seizing gold, silver and two tons of copper coins featuring Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul.

Agents also took records, computers and froze the bank accounts at the "Liberty Dollar" headquarters during the Thursday raid, Bernard von NotHaus, founder of the National Organization for the Repeal of the Federal Reserve Act & Internal Revenue Code, said in a posting on the group's Web site.

The organization, which is critical of the Federal Reserve, has repeatedly clashed with the federal government, which contends that the gold, silver and copper coins it produces are illegal. NORFED claims its Liberty Dollars are infaltion free and can restore stability to financial markets by allowing commerce based on a currency that does not fluctuate in value like the U.S. dollar.

"They're running scared right now and they had to do something," von NotHaus told The Associated Press Friday. "I'm volunteering to meet the agents and get arrested so we can thrash this out in court."

Re Ron Paul Supporters: Bats&*t Insane?

I heard this on the radio, I'm glad to be seeing it. So... this "Trust in God" instead of "In God We Trust"... and it being next to Ron Paul's head... is Ron Paul a god to his supporters? THE God?
