TSA strikes again

I cannot 100% vouch for the veracity of this report, but given the TSA's history of blunders, it's probably true. The most secure airline in the world is El Al who have never found it necessary to confiscate shampoo or other silly notions. Why can't DHS manage even the simplest things?

Re TSA strikes again

Asinine. But political correctness demands that TSA screen my 86 year old mother in law because she has sets off the metal detectors due to a knee replacement. El Al, not PC, screens you based on your race and religion. That wouldn't fly here.

If we don't strip search everyone, the terrorists have won.

No, TSA people, at least in IA, are advertised at around $8 or $9 hour, some up to $11.

Re TSA strikes again

screener job postings

Look to be $24k +local adjustment, but that's the full-time pay; the positions posted are all part-time/hourly, prob'ly not many benefits but they do get health. Requirements: have a HS Diploma/GED, be a citizen, have work experience as a security guard, be able to lift stuff.

FABULOUS. and hey, they didn't need math. Too bad there's no common sense taught in schools either.

Re TSA strikes again

You all would not like to wait as long as you do before getting on the plane when flying El Al. The last time I heard, frineds had to arrive at the airport 5 hours in advance. Most of my friends flew Air India- get there before the front wheels have lifted off and you can dash on board. Even post 9/11.

As for the moron HS guys in Washington, that is just unbelievable. However, theminimum-wage guys are not the ones who ought to be called on the carpet- don't their bosses have to use any sense when training them?

Re TSA strikes again

Remember back when the TSA was being formed? Republicans fought tooth and nail to prevent the screeners from having collective bargaining rights with the ability to go on strike. Lousy pay + no respect = low expectations.

Re TSA strikes again

Judgement and common sense are not trainable. The lower the skill sets of the workers you hire, the more detailed process instructions become and the more rule-driven the work becomes, which further crowds out the use of judgement. Rinse and repeat.

Re TSA strikes again

Yeah... I have friends who have flown El Al. Forget schedules. and I'm pretty sure each and every passenger is searched. And if there is even a possibility that something is amiss with a passenger? Flight held. I wonder how they ever make any connections.

Too bad this country doesn't have public flogging.
