Americans Aren't Very Enthused About Any Of The Candidates

According to this poll: IBDeditorials.com: IBD/TIPP Economic, Presidential Election, and Political Polls -- IBD/TIPP Poll: Americans Not Thrilled By Potential Candidates

I guess it depends on what the meaning of 'appealing' is. Only Obama comes out more appealing than unappealing and it's weak.

Oh, I am very enthusiastic about my candidate:

If he isn't on the ballot, I intend to vote for the increasingly popular Nonatha Above.

I'm enthusiastic, darn it! How come no one ever polls ME????

No, wait.. that's not true. I was polled for that Pew study on Internet usage. LOL.

We vote here on February 5 and I've seen just one bumper sticker, for Obama. So maybe this poll is accurate.

Or maybe Northeast Malibu isn't remotely like most of America.

Americans Aren't Very Enthused About Any Of The Candidates

No shit! Big surprise since there's so many wonderful ones on both sides to choose from. So what's new in American politics?

They're predicting a great turnout here in MA, even on the Republican side.

I think there is more excitement among Democratic candidate supporters. I can understand a lack of interest on the other side of the aisle. But Ron Paul supporters appear to be pretty excited, so it's not all apathy.

They're expecting record turn-out here.

I'm excited. This is the first time the California primary is being held early enough that there is still something at stake.

Re Americans Aren't Very Enthused About Any Of The Candidates

My polling place had just a trickling in of voters, a steady trickle, but nothing matching the day of the recall election. My area could be anomalous, but the photos of various polling places around Southern California (on the LA Times website) show empty voting booths, no lines.

I stood in LINE today. I have never, EVER stood in line at my polling place. Never.

From my local news station this morning:
Quote:
State officials are predicting record turnout that could approach 50 percent.
Sounds good to me, especially in a state where if you are not registered with a party, you can't vote in their primary.

Re Americans Aren't Very Enthused About Any Of The Candidates

I don't think the Republicans are enthusiastic at all. McCain is too moderate. Huckabee is too religious. Romney is too plastic. (I'm quoting what I hear, not my own feelings.)

What I hear from my Democratic friends is that they are having a hard time deciding between Hillary and Obama because they like them both, and think that both would make excellent presidents (of course, the bar on "excellence" has been lowered quite a bit in the preceding 7 years.)

And that's how I feel, too, as I sit out the end of a rainstorm and wait to go with my daughter so she can vote for the very first time.

We are both voting for Obama. She is excited about him. I think he would have a slightly better shot in November, but I like Hillary, too, and wish I could vote for both of them.

Re Americans Aren't Very Enthused About Any Of The Candidates

I just heard that so many people showed up to vote around here that some of the places ran out of ballots.

Editing to add -- Now they're saying the problem was not the overall high turnout, which was expected and planned for, but the large number of decline-to-state voters who were asking for Democratic ballots. That's what hadn't been anticipated.

In my county there is not even an organized Democratic party. They were expecting about 24 people to attend the caucus. There were about 100 in attendance! The vote was 47 Obama, 13 Clinton and 2 undecided. (Some of the attendees didn't caucus.)

I'd say that is some serious interest.

I got an email saying they are projecting Idaho will go to Obama.

Re Americans Aren't Very Enthused About Any Of The Candidates

FWIW, my caucus was swamped. Huge lines, mass chaos, more than 400 in my precinct caucus, probably something like 3000 people showed up (several precincts meeting in different rooms in the same building). They ran out of ballots and I got a little slip of blank yellow paper to write my choice on. Hand-written sign-in with nobody checking ID. My precinct went about 70% for Obama, 30% for Clinton. I heard on the radio after leaving that at one of the caucus sites a few miles west of me people were waiting on line outside in a Minnesota February for more than two hours, eventually they gave up even trying to get people into the building and let them vote while waiting in line with the organizers going outside to distribute and collect ballots.

I would not be surprised if heavily conservative areas are seeing a lack of interest. Turnout looked average where I live.

I got home way too late to go the the Caucus. Which probably wouldn't have mattered because it was so crowded people were turned away.
Caucus denies some voters : Election : Boulder Daily Camera

this hasn't been fair or equal, they need to go back to primaries. regardless of who or which side you want-you should have the right, and the ability to participate, by changing the way people participate-they screwed it up for a lot of people.
