Cold Medicine

Out of curiosity, has anyone come out with any statistics that taking away our right to buy over the counter cold medicine anonymously has cut down on meth use in the USA yet?

I'd really like to know that my name and address written in pharmacy books every time I get a cold is really helping with the war on drugs.

Re Cold Medicine

Here they scan the barcode on my driver's license.

I can't say that I know of any stats on how it affected meth here, but we were finding from our agencies statewide that there were very few signs, if any, of meth addiction gone wild in NYS - nothing like the crack epidemic - and since addicts often come in contact with child welfare, I took it as a pretty accurage gauge of how serious a problem it was(n't) in our state. So it's hard to say how effective it's been when we didn't see much of any problem in the first place.

Re Cold Medicine

If I had to make a prediction, cough medicine will be next.

Kids are robotripping on it, and I'm sure it won't be long before it's taken away from those of us with... you know... coughs.

Maybe next they can take away glue and household cleaners too, since those could be abused too.

at homedepot they have cashiers do age checks when you try to do self-checkout for certain glues.
I guess I'm old enough to get high.

There are already limits on how much glue you can buy from a hobby store, aren't there?

Re Cold Medicine

It had a huge effect at first, and then the drug cookers started getting their pseudoephedrine supplies from elsewhere. Mexico.

I'm not convinced that dextromethorphan, the drug in cough suppressant, works anyhow. Except for robotripping.

I'm pretty sure it doesn't, but I'm not willing to pay for the studies to prove that. Besides, the prescription stuff is way cheaper anyway. Narcotics and all.
