| | Re How in the Palin Pregnancy Different than the Spears Pregnancy and the Movie Juno? | | Oh yeah, sex on the first date = slut, sex after you've been dating a while = romantic I know that line of thought but it never involved a condom (unless one used a lack of preparedness as an excuse to stall sex so one wouldn't seem so slutty). |

| | Re How in the Palin Pregnancy Different than the Spears Pregnancy and the Movie Juno? | | First date or 30th had nothing to do with it - and in some circles still doesn't. If your peer group stresses purity and virginity, you won't want to be caught with a condom in your purse because a condom in your purse means you're a slut, no matter what the Health teacher says.

They're right, Margaret, in general girls are considered slutty if they're prepared. Go figger.
(Of course, it was also rumored that this particular girl had had 4 abortions by the time we were halfway through our senior year. Seeing the BC pills in her possession didn't have much to do with that perception!)

| | Re How in the Palin Pregnancy Different than the Spears Pregnancy and the Movie Juno? | | I have to agree with MJ. Margaret, I'll be very glad if it's not the case anymore, but a girl being in possession of a condom at least used to imply that she was open to the idea of sex. Now that doesn't mean that she would use the condom with just anyone, but the idea that she was prepared to use it at all was enough to brand her as easy. |

| | Re How in the Palin Pregnancy Different than the Spears Pregnancy and the Movie Juno? | | I just asked Kevin, to get a male perspective. I didn't tell him about the thread at first... I just asked if a girl has a condom, does that make her easy? He said it makes her well prepared I love my man
He said he's never heard a guy call a girl easy for being prepared. He's heard (and I have heard) plenty of guys complain "she made me use a condom" but never heard the easy thing.
I'm sorry any of you grew up in a world where being safe was taboo This is sad and scary to me. |

Just which part of Connecticut are you from?

Geeze....being safe was never taboo and it wasn't and isn't particularly scary. That there are no taboos for young girls and boys does, however, scare the sh-t out of me and I'm sorry you grew up in a world where young teens carry condoms and do whatever they feel like because....they feel like it. And nine out of ten girls are not registered condom carriers at young ages. |

| | Re How in the Palin Pregnancy Different than the Spears Pregnancy and the Movie Juno? | | Margaret, it still happens. It doesn't depend on overall society, it depends on your immediate peer group. Which is why the virginity-pledge girls and boys are less likely to have or use condoms when they have sex.
The other mentality is guys saying "If you want me to use a condom that means you must have slept around." Seriously. Heard it from both genders of kids in the group homes and their friends. I'm glad there are peer groups that support safe sex, but don't assume everyone's peer groups followed that model.

Teen sex is not something I endorse, but if it's happening (which, obviously is for some teens) then I'd rather they be safe than some silly notion of romatic. How romantic is AIDS? |

...or proliferation of other diseases given that condoms aren't the magical panacea for every STD. Abstinence is generally a bit more effective (understating things).

It's my understanding that the reason she announced her daughter's pregnancy were the wild rumours that she'd faked her own pregnancy with Trig who was supposed to be her daughter's baby. | Yeah, her daughter being five months pregnant and showing had nothing to do with it. If it hadn't been for that damn rumor, they wouldn't have said a thing, and when the cameras panned to the adoring family in the Xcel Center, I'm sure no one would have noticed.
Bristol's the one in the red top, right?

| | Re How in the Palin Pregnancy Different than the Spears Pregnancy and the Movie Juno? | | Nope, but a good friend of mine when I was growing up was from there. Rough place. The female friends he had were pretty "slutty' from the sound of it though | | | |
