This has been huge news here but hasn't been on the national news much since it happened on the same day as Hurricane Ike.
25 people dead. 130 injured. The injured have severe crushing injuries to their upper bodies.
This idiot engineer was texting on the job. The exact time hasn't been determined yet but he blew through three red lights along the track, didn't pull over to the siding at the Chatsworth station and never applied the brakes even though a Union Pacific freighter was coming head on.
I only wish he'd lived after the crash so that he could be strung up by his toes.
And I read that they were talking to two teens about texting with the engineer before the crash - they hadn't found the phone at that point, but were carefull to say that didn't mean it didn't exist.
Tragic circumstances.

Yeah, I heard that too when this story first broke - they were saying the CA crash might have been caused by texting, but that texting was initially blamed in the MA crash and was disproven so they (the reporters) weren't taking the CA text claims very seriously.
