Awesome - filter out profanity, yucky comments from Youtube!
Fab.U.Lous! Big Grin If you use FireFox, do an add-on search for "Comment Snob". Once it's installed and you restart, find it in the list and click on "Options" to choose which options you want, restart again.

You can filter out profanity, comments with excessive punctuation, excessive capitalization, etc. - hallmarks of careless commenting that is likely to include yucky and ugly comments. It's not perfect by any means, but this filters out a TON of stuff, cleaning up the comment section considereably. You can click on any of the comments that have been filtered (it shows a space, and the reason for that comment to have been filtered) and tell it to show that comment, but you'd have to do them one at a time.

Great for the multitude of times where the video is great, but the comment section is filled with garbage.

RE: Awesome - filter out profanity, yucky comments from Youtube!
That brings to mind last holiday season. I don't think it works for the videos themselves does it?

My daughter was suddenly getting into the songs of the season. I wanted her to hear a couple and thought youtube would be terrific. I prescanned the comments, looked for ratings and other things to try to weed out bad ones. My daughter saw the name along the side of jingle bell rock and she wanted to listen to it. The pictures were cartoonish and I ready quickly through. (After having had roughly 15 or so be just fine, no issue, I had to pick this one). Smile

It was lead off by a "dj" saying this is such and so dj the best f***ng dj in town....then started the jingle bell rock song.

Oh boy. I said to my daughter that was a bad word in there, we don't use that word. She promptly asked me what the word was and I said that I wouldn't repeat it, but if she recalled hearing a new word that she wasn't familiar with, don't say it as it would get her in tons of trouble at school, home, etc.

She whispered in my ear, quietly, that I could tell her and she promised she wouldn't use it anywhere or at anytime. She always wants to negotiate! Smile Was my face red.

I LOVE innocence!

I usually just don't even read the comments on youtube videos just because of the morons that post.

LOL, Kim! Big Grin

Nope, doesn't filter videos, although I think YT has some filters. I haven't really looked too closely. This is just for the comments sections. And yes, I never bother with them either, but sometimes kids want to look, even when they've been told not to.

And it won't filter yucky or ugly comments if they're "well written" in the sense of properly formatted and with no actual profanity. It's not that intelligent. Still, it's better than nothing.
