Just because y'all want to see how miserable I am...
The dog is up to his tummy in snow when he goes outside to pee. Poor thing, he kept wandering around in circles, I think to make it shallower so he could do his thing.

As you can see, we're not even 1/2 way done.....

Blizzard conditions tomorrow, so yet another day home. I am really glad we got the high speed and I can work from home....less guilt when I can actually accomplish something on these days when there is no way to get in to the office.

Yeek! Looks like good jewelry weather! The storm is supposed to come this way tomorrow, but we're further south, so we're supposed to get "wintery mix". I hate "wintery mix". I rather have snow. Maybe it will miss us altogether.

Sorry you have to deal with it. Stay home and stay safe.

By the way - you inspired the name for my most recent weaving project!

It should be good jewelry making weather. Unfortunately, I have enough real work to keep me too busy to do any during the day.

Hubby is still not home from work. Poor guy, he got put on days, but is still plowing. I'm sure they're on 12 hour shifts, so I'm hoping he's home soon....it's miserable out there and I'm worried he's going to end up in a ditch!

Crap, we changed to snow with wintery mix, and then freezing rain in the morning. Joy of joys. Still blaming MJ for wishing this evil sky dandruff on us.

Ugh... we have like 4 inches right now. But within the next hour it will change over to freezing rain. Just in time for the commute. I hate this!

Well, half my yard is back to bare grass. The other half is drifts waist high. The dingo won't even go out to do his thing, it's over his head in most places!

I already had to shovel off a 3' drift from in front of the front door - back stoop is completely clear because of the wind. Dan made it in to work this morning, can't figure out how he even got out the driveway.

Bah.

It rained ALL DAY here yesterday, and most of the night. Fairly cold, but not freezing. And then I woke up to it being 68 degrees out. Wtf It's now 66, supposed to go up to 69. Apparently a friend of mine (I forget where in AL she lives now) had a tornado alert pop up late last night.

But it's supposed to drop to 34 tonight and only go up to 50 tomorrow. Welcome to sick-making weather. (The kids used to always get sick when the weather bounced suddenly like this.)

What I hated the most about my two years in South Dakota was that the snow that fell in October was still there in April. It was covered, of course, by the snows of November, December, January, February, and March.

Nothing ever melted until Easter.

I remember Sandy, my big old Heinz 57 dog, would get chunks of ice in his paws when we went for walks, and all of a sudden he'd start limping on three legs, poor sweetie.

And, of course, when my husband couldn't find his car in the Gateway parking lot because his eyelids froze together.

Council Bluffs is about 130 miles south of where we were, but I imagine it's pretty much the same for you.

But it really was a healthy place to live. We never got colds or flus. Didn't need flu shots.

The viruses were annihilated by the weather.

When a thought takes one's breath away, a grammar lesson seems an impertinence.

We're pretty much snowed in. We shoveled four times yesterday and still the driveway was covered with about 7" of snow this morning. Mark started shoveling at 5:30 and gave up at 6:30, having cleared about 1/4 of the driveway. So, I made a big breakfast while thte boys and Mark took ten-minute shifts (the wind was just whipping through so they couldn't stay out very long).

They finally finished at 9:45, and Mark's boss called. Everything is crashing and they are insisting that Mark go in. I hope he's able to make it on the other roads. Minneaplos/St. Paul has cut the snow removal budget this year, and they now have 80 full-time employees, down from 154 last year. Beam me up!
And Lynn, can you post a pic of Rex outside in the snow? That just sounds adorable!

No dingo pics. We got milk, bread and canned corned beef hash Wtf from the grocery store yesterday, but no AA batteries.

Made Jeremy do the sidewalk. I told someone (from Florida on a conference call) that it looks like a Currier and Ives holiday card out there, but I'd rather be in Florida.

Dan will take out the tractor and do the driveway when he gets home from plowing the city out.

Woke up here to frozen pipes this morning - Ted had them all subterranean except for one small part and this is the first time in four years that it's frozen. So, he's down at the shop, where there is running HOT water - I'm up here where there is internet and emergency bottled water. We each have priorities. Wink

I had my life flash before my eyes on my way to work today, and I'm still a little clueless how I made it out of it ok. But I'm very grateful I did!

Now it's thundering. I still blame MJ.

There's about 4 inches of snow on the ground (as of right before this storm). The sleet this morning, followed by rain, didn't seem to put a dent into the depth of the snow.

It took the boyz 2 hours to plow the drive. Eek But I will be able to get out in the morning. When it's freaking TEN BELOW ZERO. Air temp. YUCK.

Tomorrow I'll get AA batteries and maybe get some pics of the drifts. They are INCREDIBLE.

We got 10 inches between 5 am and 3 pm. Then it sleeted/rained and made a 2 inch layer of ice on top. Then it thunderstormed, and the temp oddly went UP, melting a bit of the ice, only to freeze over again now. I freaking hate winter.

It was pretty at one point, and that will be the only time it's pretty for the next nine months - hello brown snow season.
