I heard it the other day and nearly called you...except that it was the last haunting, I mean gut-wrenching, I really mean I'd rather have a drill bit through my ear drums, chorus and I knew by the time you picked up, it would be over.

You must be kidding.

What? The Christmas Shoes, The Christmas Gloves, The Christmas Parka?

RE: For MJ
It was something like Love...(something)....Hope.

The shoes story was Love...
Then the sequel was what I can't remember
Then there was Hope.

I wasn't home for the first 2, but caught glimpses of the last one...of all people hubby and son watched them.

I can't deal with that song, let alone the movie, and its sequels. Barf.

I have a coworker who has never heard it, and has never heard *about* it or the movies. She also doesn't want to.

Here at EA is the only place I've ever heard of this phenomenon. I don't listen to the radio much anyway, and I really don't listen much this time of year. I'm proud to say I've managed to avoid all incarnations of this thing. Big Grin

Oh really, everyone needs to experience Christmas Shoes just once, if for no other reason than to understand the cultural reference:

Heh, now that I think of it, this would be a terrific seasonal version of Rickrolling.

Too funny....I was playing this on my lunch hour...lunch hour was over and one of the girls came in the room and said, "OMG! This song is so sad I can't listen to it", and ran out of the room. I guess the young also have heard it before lol

I kind of like it.

I just can't get past "Mom is dying so instead of spending time with her I'm at a shoe store to buy shoes for her that she's not really going to wear" and the thought that Jesus is going to greet the woman in heaven, look down at her feet, and say, "Hey, nice shoes!"

Oh, I hate that song.

And the Dan Fogelburg one where the guy meets his ex-lover in a taxi. Just as bad.

"Taxi Driver," by Harry Chapin, or "Same Old Lang Syne," by Dan Fogelburg? (they're equally dismal, but the Fogelburg one has them meeting in a grocery store)

RE: For MJ
I'm mixing the two. Both are horrible...as is Cat's in the Cradle. Maybe we could put them all together and have just one awful song (sung to the tune of "Same Old Lang Syne"):

Met my old lover at a Payless store
While shopping for the Christmas Shoes....
She asked me about my dear son and wife
Haven't seen them to get the news.

And then we went out in a taxi cab
I hoped we would hook up real soon,
But then she dissed me and she walked right off.....
Nothing like jolly Christmas doom.....

(strains of Auld Lang Syne float in....and one feels like jumping off a bridge.....)

Lynn, you slay me!

I can't stand the guy's voice that does the Christmas shoes song. And he must be butt ugly or something because the camera is always really far away from his face or at some weird angle and he wears that horrid skull cap. And what's with the knitted cap the mom is wearing?

RE: For MJ
"Christmas Shoes" came on as I was driving to the train, and because of what I was doing I couldn't turn the station fast enough so it ALMOST got stuck. Now "Same Old Lang Syne" is on the Internet radio station, but it doesn't bother me nearly as much. Joni Mitchell's "River" hasn't been on yet today, but if I hear it, I'll hit the Sad Xmas Song trifecta.
