| | Congratulations Ailsa.
For those of you who might be scratching your heads at the moment, Ailsa's beloved and beleaguered Soxs clinched the AL Wild Card slot yesterday.
Which means that, for the first time in years, hot dogs will be served in Fenway in October.
But just early in the month.

| | Oh and here's a good one I heard on the news this morning:
One of our local (NYC) TV weather personalities, who is obviously a Boston expatriate (no connection to the football team), allegedly paid a visit to the Bambino's grave in Westchester County last night and left some Red Sox memorabilia for him.
Don't know how smart that was. The Babe obviously has a long memory.

One of our local (NYC) TV weather personalities, who is obviously a Boston expatriate (no connection to the football team), allegedly paid a visit to the Bambino's grave in Westchester County last night and left some Red Sox memorabilia for him. | Another dumb curse story:
According to legend, in 1945 the owner of the Billy Goat tavern in Chicago tried to attend a Cubs world series game with his billy goat. (This was back when rednecks in Chicago rooted for both teams.) William Wrigley refused admission, and the owner of bar and goat said "They'll never win again!" as he huffed off.
That's reason enough to hate the Cubs in my book. But it gets worse, or better. A couple of weeks ago a group of sly Cubs fans flew to Houston and procurred a goat. You guessed it. They took the goat to Minute Maid field and tried to buy a ticket. When they were refused, they said "They'll never win again!" This, they claim, transferred the curse to the Astro's (But shouldn't they have put the curse on St. Louis? Or the Tribune Corp. if they wanted the real villain?) and cleared the way for the Cubs to resume the post-season dominance they had before the goat was kept out of Wrigley.
Now you have a reason to hate the Cubs, too.

You won't need all that much.

They're tied for the NL spot. It's down to the last few games.

| | Don't worry, wormie. Despite the game last Sunday, you won't be bothered with the Dolphins heading for the playoffs this year.

| | My best guess is that the Curse will operate in one of two ways. The Curse could strike the Sox tonight (say by Pedro melting down in the first). I think, however, that it will wait and stop the Sox against the Yankees in some bizarre, grotesque manner, probably involving Roger Clemens pitching a no-hitter to clinch the LCS. The Curse is nothing if not artistic.

| | | Fenway vs. Wrigley. Gotta love it.
After millions and billions of dollars of taxpayer money has been wasted on palaces and monuments to corporate welfare, it's good to know that two fully-amortized ancient ballparks with horrendous press access might possibly play host to the greatest baseball game of the year. |

So, no comment.
