| | I haven't read my work email in 2 1/2 days.
I didn't plan to take off most Monday and all of Tuesday and Wednesday, it just worked out that way when I realized I wasn't even close to ready for the holidays.
I have to start dealing with work now, and then go into the office shortly and see what kinds of disasters happened because I didn't plan to be away.
I'm very afraid. I think I'll look at my toes awhile before I check my email. Look at that, they really could use a coat of polish.
Hmmmm....fiddle, twiddle, hmmm.........
Are you working?
Andrea
who just has to push two buttons to boot up the email, wonder why it has taken an hour so far

| | I've been on vacation since December 18. I go back to work on January 5.
I've been checking my work email regularly since I left the office. I have not, however, dialed into my voice mail.
It's part fear, part loathing. Anyone with anything important to say knows where to find me. The rest can wait until next year when I get intimate with the delete button.

| | I won't check work email (can't, actually, because they don't have the network set up for dial-in users). I don't check the work voice mail because the outgoing message clearly says "I'M NOT HERE AND WON'T CALL YOU BACK UNTIL 1/6/04." No sense messing up my system by calling folks back early.

I've been off since the 19th, have no plans to check email, and little ambition to check voice mail. I have the same message on my voice mail as MJ does, but I think it might drop off after a week if I don't remember to pick it up.
But do you think I can remember my voicemail password for the life of me?

| | Well, I was working last night.
And actually working, too. Not just goofing off and watching movies.
I've started writing the *cue scary music* NIGHT AUDIT MANUAL.
That's right, I'm sitting in front a computer all night for the next couple nights and writing down every single step I take, and why I take it. Multi-media even... I'm adding screen shots of stuff that can be confusing.
Why am I doing this? Enlightened self interest.
#1: I don't want to have to train the next auditor using something that the comptroller wrote. I've read her manuals. She has no talent for it.
#2: When I'm done, my way will be "the right way". So, if a certain coauditor decides that he wants to do things differently, that's fine. But he'll be doing it the wrong way.
#3: Hell, yeah, I'll kiss butt. But in *my* way. I'm still gonna take potshots at the comptroller in meetings. But I'll still be the one that saved her the trouble of having to write a new manual.
I have to say, writing it is fun. Proof reading... oy! I can barely make my eyes scan the damn thing, much less actually read it. Where's Bridgette when you need her?

| | I got a date today with the bathroom. It is getting cleaned, MY way. Then it is the bedroom, the stairs, and at least the family room. Mother is coming tomorrow.

I have a date with my bathroom too!
Just came back from Home Depot. Got the paint. Wish me luck - as soon as I finish my eggo - it's paint time! |

Hell no! Office isn't even open today so I don't even have to call to check on my staff | I'm a big part of the Scrooge reason our company is open today. We used to throw in an extra day off when Christmas fell on a Thursday, but then that led people the next year to whine that they only got one day off for Christmas instead of two.
So, when the PTB asked if I thought we should just close everything on Friday I said, nope, I don't want to hear the whining next year. Keep it consistent - 1/2 day Christmas Eve, all day Christmas, day and a half total.
Of course, now I'm sitting here, knot in my stomach, not going into work but thinking about all of the things I should be doing....which I wouldn't really be thinking about if the office was closed.
I think this falls into the "getting what you deserve" category.
Andrea

So what if the old messages fall off. Worst thing that will happen is they'll call again.
