| | Roger Not A Dodger, But An Astro | | Geez, Clemens, what, the eleven weeks of retirement get to you? Quote: |
HOUSTON (Reuters) - Six times Cy Young award winner Roger Clemens (news) ended his brief retirement from baseball on Monday and signed on to pitch for his hometown team, the Houston Astros (news).
| What kind of bogus move is this? You just accepted all these awards, all these testimonials and now you're coming back for another $5 million? I know this isn't about the money. Had you never won a World Series, I could understand. The Astros were a pitcher short last year. They added two -- two damn Yankees to play in Texas.
But, Roger, Roger, Roger, you have World Series rings. You have money, you have fame, you have it all. Oh yeah, and all those big testimonial nights during your last swing through baseball. Roger, your last game was on October 25, 2003. That is 82 days ago. You haven't retired --- you took a vacation.
Ailsa, get into this thread and pound some nastiness at this two-timin' varmint. |

What a shame.

| | Re: Roger Not A Dodger, But An Astro | | Has anyone checked on Mr. Steinbrenner?
I'm not worried about his health. I'm worried about the welfare of Yankees GM Brian Cashman. You just know Steinbrenner is going to tear him a new one over this.
And that sound you heard from the midwest are millions of Cubs fans doing their lemming impersonations from building tops (sans bleachers) across Chicago's northside. The Cubs just became contenders for third in the NL Central. White Sox fans celebrated the news, until they remembered they have to cheer for the White Sox.
I actually think this is GREAT NEWS. I could give a rat's ass about the Astros. All I know is I'm finally going to see Roger Clemens forced to take a bat for an entire season. Seeing Clemens get put on his ass is going to be a highlight of my season.
Brian

"Roger Clemens was a great warrior for the Yankees - a teacher and a leader. He told the world he was retiring and we had no choice but to believe him."

Yeah, I wouldn't want to be in Cashman's (who waxed far more eloquently on the topic, btw) shoes.

| | Re: Roger Not A Dodger, But An Astro | | Brian, you think Mike Piazza might call for something high and inside (or behind the ear) one day?
I do know there are plenty of ALers who have gone to the senior circuit. A few no doubt remember flailing backward in the batter's box.
So there is an upside to this move. I knew you would find it. |

Bogus is right, George. What happened to spending more time with his family? I could understand it if Clemens still had something to prove, but his rings and awards should've taken care of that. Or is he still ticked off about that "twilight of his career" remark? |
