| | I saw green today! It was peeking out from under the white blanket on our neighbor's lawn.

My surprise lillies are peeking out of my front garden, and almost all the snow is melted. The grass is looking greenish. It hasn't quite started to smell like spring here yet (I know it sound nasty to the urban crew, but NOTHING means spring more than the smell of thawed out manure ) but it should be really soon. I think the ground frost is beginning to lift. |

| | *laugh* Yup. That is a smell of spring--primarily from the large tracts of farmland owned by the university.
Today looked pretty neat. I've been sort of bummed because we're in the black snow stage. We still have a lot of it, but it is pretty ugly. It's only been in the past couple days that I've been able to see patches of lawn under the snow. This morning, though, we had a light dusting of snow. It was the type of snow that made the trees look like they'd been hit by an ice storm, but without all the damage or danger. It's a weird snow to describe. You almost would think that there was fog outside until you look closely and you see that it is a cloud of very light, very tiny snow.

And lots of birds chirping on sunny days. We are getting there!!! |

| | Oh, we have some green but we're still mostly in the ugly snow trying to melt stage too. But then, I want the snow to melt so I can have the backyard bricked over.

| | Yup! Break out the albuterol, zyrtec, flonase and call in for prednazone!
It's spring, by gum!

| | There are definitely signs that spring is on its way.
We've been woken up the past two nights by a skunk who decided to share his scent. I think he's finally woken up from his winter's nap.
I saw birds migrating back north.
But it won't be official until: - I see the first robin red-breast.
- We get woken up by our resident woodpecker (the hazard of living in a log cabin near a rather confused bird).
When does spring officially arrive for you?

| | The snow piles are almost ENTIRELY gone! Woo-hoo! My yard looks like straw, but it's only a matter of time for that to green up.
