| | Re:(1)It's the weekend!!!!!!!!1 | | Tomorrow night I'm going to see Kate Clinton, and Sunday night I'll be accompanying nieces/nephew to trick-or-treating. Other than that, I'm going to catch up on all the sleep I lost during the playoffs. |

| | Re:(1)It's the weekend!!!!!!!!1 | | Weekends are not very appealing for me - I work EVERY saturday morning from 9:00 am to Noon and I usually work my second job on Saturday evenings.
This weekend on saturday (in the afternoon) we are taking the girls to trick-or-treating at the zoo, and then on Sunday my theater troupe is throwing a masquerade fundraiser at a local bar.

| | Re: (3) It's the weekend!!!!!!!!1 | | Very nice! Picked up DH from work last night, went north about two hours and stayed at Days Inn in Childersburg. Then we got up this morning and went to De Soto Caverns. (Pictures later after I sort through them.) Then drove back after the caverns.
DH has vacation all week, but we couldn't afford to take off for more than a night. But getting out to a place that's way different than our usual haunts, even for a day, was really nice.

| | Re: (4) It's the weekend!!!!!!!!1 | | Birthday party for Hubby's 10-going-on-30 niece, with his ADHD sister, her social skill-less husband, and Hubby's parents at a restaurant the 10-year-old choose. I don't think I even sat down before making sure the waitress knew that I would have a BIG glass of wine.

| | Re: (5) It's the weekend!!!!!!!!1 | | Gee that sounds like fun.
We skipped rollerskating and went to see a screening of a documentary about the unsolved Villisca axe murders. The filmmaker and historian were there and we got to ask questions of them. Very nice fellows who even answered the email I sent them after I got home and thought of more questions.

Please tell me you didn't take Bear with you!! | Well, of course! What was I supposed to do, leave him and Rex home to party all night?
No, it was VERY tastefully done. PBS was one of the funders, so there was no gore. Bear loved it...he has the same train wreck mentality as his mother.
I don't know if that's a good thing or not.

| | Re: (9) It's the weekend!!!!!!!!1 | | Okay, that brings to mind a quick story.
During the screening, my cell phone rang (I'd forgotten to turn it off ). I dashed out the door to answer it after seeing it was Dan, and since he's camping, I figured it might be important.
Tossed my purse down on a table right outside the auditorium and dug for my cell phone. As I straighted up, I looked up and saw....
.
.
.
.
.
. THE AXE!
Yep, right there, in living color, not three inches from my hand. No glass or anything, just sitting on the table, propped up against the wall with a copy of the newspaper from that day in 1912.
I squeaked and jumped about 5 feet!!!!

| | Re: (11) It's the weekend!!!!!!!!1 | | I woke up at 10:00 and realized that I was supposed to be at a car wash with my youngest at 9:00! I felt terrible. Not like me to forget to help out. Met some nice parents there and went to a pizza party afterwards at a couple's house. Nice afternoon. Good people. Had dinner at my in-laws' and brought the girls home. Family is good. Tomorrow is laundry, cleaning up around the house, and getting milk and stuff. Will probably go to grandma's to trick-or-treat.

| | Re: (12) It's the weekend!!!!!!!!1 | | Hung out around the house yesterday. Our big chore was consigning the bassinet to the basement ( my baby's growing up...okay, just kidding). After Rory had conked for the evening we went out to dinner (she came with us but slept the entire time). Today we're going to the mall during her mid-day nap.

| | Re: (13) It's the weekend!!!!!!!!1 | | Taught Saturday school yesterday morning. In the afternoon, we cleaned up some of the yard (hubby's not big on edging, grrr), cleaned the gutters, and took down about 3/4 of a dead tree. Those are projects we've been putting off, so it was good to finally get to work on them.
Today is more yard work, a TON of grading (grades are due on Friday, and I didn't have time to grade anything all last week), and trick-or-treaters this evening. I have no idea how many kids to expect, so I hope we don't have to be the Scrooges that turn off the light early.

| | Re: (14) It's the weekend!!!!!!!!1 | | Saturday School??? You're kidding??? Who gets to attend Saturday School???
As for the grading--I hear ya. I am working on it too. We had progress reports last week, so it is not as bad as usual. Report cards are the beginning of December tho, and I don't want to get caught over Thanksgiving doing a lot of grades, so I have to get cracking!!

| | Re: (15) It's the weekend!!!!!!!!1 | | Saturday School is for the lucky ones projected to possibly fail the state reading or math test this year. Beginning this year, they have to pass both of them to move on to sixth grade. God bless former governor George Bush.
Saturday School has about 25 5th graders and is not to be confused with Reading Extended Day (3:10-5:00 on Mondays), Math Extended Day (3:10 to 5:00 on Tuesdays), Science "Club" (aka Extended Day, 3:10 to 5:00 on Thursdays), after-school Math tutoring, after-school Reading tutoring, or Reading Intervention (30 minutes daily intervention provided during the school day, by the reading teacher, in groups of no larger than six. Try finding an hour and a half of extra teaching time during the day when you have 14 kids who are required to have intervention.)
Education in Texas is heading for collapse. Or rather, teachers in Texas are heading for collapse.
