| | Howdy folks, just wanted to give a quick update.
Mom is doing great, surprisingly so. She's already back to her old self, doing all her social events, etc. I've told her that she should milk the "no housework" directive from the doc as long as possible, Lord knows she needs a vacation and it is sorta funny to see my father be completely helpless with doing household chores -- I believe it is giving him a great appreciation for everything that she does.
The good news out of it for me is that I don't have to travel there as often as I am.
Other good news is that I've got a friend who works for Farmer's Insurance who might have an "in" for me there. We'll see (I'm not counting any chickens before they hatch and especially since I've not even been able to submit a resume to the right person yet). While I hate insurance work with a passion right now, I'm clueless as to what else to do with my life, and at least the change in scenery will resolve much of the misery at this point with work. Right now that's the #1 career priority -- getting out of where I am until I can figure out what I'm going to do when I grow up. Sigh.
Hope all is well with you guys. Thanks for the thoughts and prayers.

I'm glad to hear that your mom is doing so well - and that you may have options for your career. Maybe you won't hate insurance work so much at another company.

Change can be painful, but sure may things better on the other side. Good luck!

| | Okay... keep your fingers crossed, etc., please.
Today, during my mini-lunch, I applied for four jobs - two at Farmers Insurance and two at Shelter Insurance. The two at Farmers are for field representatives, one at Shelter is a field representative and the other at Shelter is for a supervisor position (I fit the job requirements, so I applied).
Shelter is located a few blocks up the street from my house, so if I lost the company car, I could walk to work, no big deal. Other jobs provide cars.
We'll see... back to work for now. We had someone else quit today and (of course) there is not going to be a job search to fill that position, and her 80+ files will just be distributed amongst the rest of us... because, you know, we simply don't have anything to do all day...

| | Yikes! That's really rough on all of you.
Here's hoping one of the other jobs come through!

| | Wow, four applications in one mid-day! That's the way to work it! Hope you get some good results from all that - and hopefully before you succumb to exhaustion from trying to work in all the extra files....

| | To be fair, all applications were on-line and my resume was up-to-date. All I had to do was tell them what job I was applying for and upload my resume.
So, in all, applying for all four jobs cost me a whopping ten minutes of time. |

| | I sit on an arbitration panel once a month to help decide insurance company disagreements on liability, who is responsible for paying, etc.
Today, one of the guys that I normally sit with said, "You work for _______, right?" I said that I did. He said, "Didn't I see an application and resume for you at my company?" I asked him what company he was with, he told me. He then informed me that they're in the process of narrowing down candidates that they want to interview. He told me that he is part of the decision-making process, and that he remembered my resume and application and that I am in the "we are definitely interested" pile and that I should be hearing from them shortly for an interview.
This isn't my first choice in who I would want to work for (I'd rather work for Farmers), but nevertheless, that sure made me feel wonderful today! |

| | It sure is good to know that you are being looked at. I remember when I was job hunting a year and a half ago. Just to know that they like what they see on paper is half the battle.
Good luck to you Jeff.

| | Well, things move must faster than I anticipated. No sooner had I finished typing the previous post, my cellular phone rang, and it was Shelter Insurance asking me if I could come by this afternoon to take some computerized exams for the pre-interview process. They'll be doing interviews next week. I did have a ski day scheduled for next Wednesday (which is when they're wanting to interview) but now I think I'll try and postpone my ski trip until Thursday. |
