| | That ought to make Sara happy | | Randy Friggin' Johnson has agreed with the Yankees on a two year deal worth $32 million. All that stands in the way of the trade now is for Johnson to pass his physical exam. Given the year he had, he looks in good shape.
The Yankees...best division champions money can buy (you're welcome, Ailsa) |

| | Re:(1)That ought to make Sara happy | | Sure, after all, Nomar has re-signed with the Cubs so you can't sign him and convert him to 2B. BTW, I read the contract details more closely this morning. The $32 million is for 2006 and 2007. They're also making cash payments and picking up 2005's salary. Total price tag = $57 million over three years.
No wonder people hate the Yankees. There are small market clubs who spend $50 million a year for the entire roster. |

| | Re That ought to make Sara happy | | *sigh* Maybe I shouldn't complain, seeing as the Red Sox have a pretty high payroll too. But I can't help wondering when George will learn that the big bucks and the superstars don't guarantee anything (something Thomas Yawkey had trouble with, too). |

| | Re That ought to make Sara happy | | no they dont guaranteee anything, but if i remember correctly, their pitching staff was border line horrible last year. Hav to get good players to win, Randy Johnson has at most 2 good years left, so i think this is a wise signing... now they need to dumb giambi and void his contract, now that they got Tino M for next to nothing as is a much better competiter, which is what you need to win the WS..

| | Re That ought to make Sara happy | | The Yankees are clearly better with Randy Johnson. But is he going to have the impact that Roger Clemens did? No way. The Yankees of 2005 are an older and more injury prone ballclub than the one Clemens came to. The Unit will keep them in the division race but he won't be the catalyst for another dynasty run. I think the Yankees overpaid (what else is new?) but I understand the deal because Steinbrenner had to get a starting ace to fill the hole Clemens left and to offset the public damage that is being done by Giambi.
I think the big winner in this deal was Arizona. Their team is a lot better today than it was last week. Shawn Green is a big pickup and Javier Vasquez is going to do a nice job on the mound.
