I was going through old census records doing a bit of research on my great-grandfather who died when I was a baby. Family lore says that he was a "tug boat captain" and census records list him as a "marine engineer" who worked for the Warner Sugar Refining Company. I found a picture of a vessel purchased from Warner by the U.S. Navy. Not sure if he worked on that particular boat or perhaps on a sister vessel.
my mom has an ongoing project trying to trace her grandmother's history. If she can do it, she can join the DAR, but at some point someone died, the kids were farmed out and now it's heck trying to trace all of them past that point.
