I'd have a similar answer as Redlass. It would depend on the day.
On a bad day, my wife might call me "cheap." That's not exactly true, I'm more frugal -- I'm always looking for a deal. Cheap, to me at least, involves passing up on things or buying substandard items. I'll spend an hour or two on-line at various websites trying to get the best deal on a plane ticket, or whatever. I'll also buy new (never used) stuff on eBay.
When my wife does get mad and calls me "cheap," it is usually because she wants something that we just can't afford. She wants, for instance, to go to Disney World. I'd love to take her, but it is a tremendously expensive adventure for us right now (I'm not earning a real income until I graduate). If she sat back and thought about it, she would realize that since she's been married to me, I've provided her with a lifestyle (she had a horrible childhood, her first husband was very abusive, etc.) that she had never experienced before in her life -- I like to treat her well, I just also like to have us never be in the situation of living paycheck-to-paycheck. That scares the crap out of me.
On a good day, she'll tell you that I'm a caring, loving husband who treats her like a queen. I know that because that's made it back to me from others.
