Let me just say, teachers rule!
I have been fortunate that 95% of my children's teachers have been stellar.
Okay, granted, I am a proactive parent who literally goes on a search and deploy mission to find the best and then make sure my child is there.
I am always surprised to find out that not as many parents are that pushy, and that these great, talked about teachers are treated like a lotto win.
Well, with one daughter entering middle school this year, I was worried. I don't know the teachers there. The school has a bad, ill-deserved, reputation because it isn't near the "rich" side of town and is in the middle of the working class part of town.
Fortunately, my daughter was place in all advance level classes. Because of this, she is with a student body that sits and listens, with a majority of them high achievers.
And, in the middle of this, is a miracle math teacher, so lovingly committed to her craft and career, that she e-mails us weekly, and responds immediately to my concerns.
We had a long talk on the phone yesterday, because my daughter is getting, shall we say, verklempt, trying to work through the review of harder material.
I was becoming concerned that perhaps she shouldn't be in the advance class, and had written the teacher.
She e-mailed me, and when I responded immediately, she asked if she could call me.
She assured me that my daughter should be in the advanced class... she is an average student in an advanced class. She was concerned that we might expect more than that of her, and I said, "I'm please that her first test was a 77%. That's above average!"
Then she made suggestions about how we can help her. And reminded us that she is available after school every Tuesday for the advanced class and Thursdays if need be.
This, at 6:30 p.m.
Amazing.
So, with all the griping that can go on about teachers, and with having so many great teachers on this board... I thought I would say, "YAY TEACHERS!"
