Crater of Diamonds State Park

I want to go here! It's only about 7-8 hours away. Maybe since they have camping, Nick'll agree for our summer camping trip!

Re Crater of Diamonds State Park

Depending on whether you go through Little Rock or down the west coast of Arkansas, you may drive right past my house while you're going there....

One of my friends (recently moved to Louisiana) went there all the time. She said the best time to find diamonds is right after a rain. (Because of the summer heat, early morning or early evening is best, too...)

This same friend recently visited another crater park (somewhere in the southeast, have to look) and found a 50 carat sapphire and sent us a picture...

I'll see if I still have it.

If you want to go camping, I think I might combine the trip with a trip to Hot Springs National Park. Hot Springs is a beautiful town, and you can learn all about Bill Clinton's high school days. There's a wonderful pizza parlor across from the racetrack.

Nick didn't seem to excited about it last night, but I think I'll talk to him about it some more this weekend. I really, really want to go. I'm not a huge camping fan (too many bad experiences), but I would LOVE to go here!

And the chance that you might stumble across a diamond somewhere has no influence over this desire, yes?

I'm keeping my mouth shut on that one.

It does look like a fun place to go...and I would love to see you find a diamond!

Re Crater of Diamonds State Park

Here's where my friend (the one who loves Crater of Diamonds Park) went recently:

Quote:
How is everybody? I am GREAT ! Back from a 10 day vacation Gem Mining in Franklin, NC. Had a GREAT time -- and, tah dah are you sitting down?????

I FOUND A 937 CARAT STAR SAPPHIRE WORTH ABOUT 12 THOUSAND, YES FOLKS, THAT IS 12 THOUSAND BUCKS, ACCORDING TO THE GEM CUTTER AT THE MINE. Personally, I think it is just a heavy rock, but I am going to take it to a couple of jewelers and gem cutters in Houston and New Orleans and see if it is, indeed, worth that much. If so, E-BAY HERE I COME ! HA HA
I have a picture of the sapphire she found....it's too big to upload here, but I can forward it to you by e-mail if you'd like to see it.

Okay, I want to go there too.

Did she ever confirm how much it was worth?

No, she sent me the picture May 28, and I don't think she's gotten to Houston or New Orleans yet.
