| | Well, it's not really a Raise the Roof, as so much as REPLACE the roof. Despite the fact that we are determined to build this year, we have to reroof the house. (If I get to keep it as a studio, it's a good investment, right?)
So tomorrow's the day. Supplies are bought, friends are lined up, and the boys are excited (I think) about crawling up there and playing roofers.
My job is to cook for the hordes of workers (hahahaha they don't know what they are in for...just kidding, I have brownies and fixings for potato salad and BBQ beef ready and those are things I can make that are edible) and call 911 should anyone fall off the roof.
I won't go up there...besides issues with vertigo, I have a problem with getting DOWN. I could go up fine. I could probably walk around fine. Getting me back to the ladder and down the side of the house would be an issue, and I don't want to spend the rest of my life up there.

| | No drinking anything stronger than tea while they're up there! They've gotten one side totally torn off, and are about 1/3 shingled. The other side is almost torn off.
I've made gallons of potato salad, pasta salad, fruit salad, have roast in the crockpot for BBQ sandwiches, as well as a dozen sandwiches for lunch. The guys' wives are coming over later for dinner. I'm also the point person for "running into town" when they discover they forgot something.
Jeremy is loving running up and down the ladder. He'd be right at home with the Horsemen doing it with him!!!

| | Hey, what's wrong with putting the cheap-ass roast in the crock for pulled beef? It works great.
They got done with all of the front, and about 2/3 of the back. We (the wives) really wanted them to quit...they were exhausted. They didn't want to, but one of the wives managed to convince her hubby he'd be better off going home and getting some rest. These guys are not spring chickens any more.
Thank God for friends though. They really did work hard, and I think in a way they sort of enjoy it. I got a ton of weeding done, and the yard is really clean because we kept picking up stuff as they threw it down. Dan rigged up a couple of slick deals...he used the bucket on the tractor to take up new shingles and to take down the old junk. He's really quite the master at thinking of things like that.
And my food (slick's scorn or no) went over great. Everyone raved and Jeremy even said the BBQ beef was the best I've made. A few leftovers, but not much.

| | It has BBQ sauce. That means it's BBQ in my book.
One of the guys is back today. We really didn't need a full crew, they have so little left to finish up. They are up there now...I've been mowing since 7:30 and took a little break to grab some breakfast.
They are all pretty tired. Even Jeremy is walking around like an old man today. I think roofing is not a career that any of these guys would like full-time!

I think I need to replace the roof. It would keep them occupied (and tired!) for the rest of the summer. |

| | They finished up at about noon. We had some leftovers for lunch, and then everyone took naps. Serious naps.
It looks great though. Except now we need to reside or paint the house and trim. It's kind of like the "buy a new lamp and suddenly you need new furniture/carpet/windowtreatments" syndrome.
