| | I know that many of you know that Deb and I were putting together a new group - Operation Marine Corps Kids - to send hand-crafter things to new mom's who give birth while their husbands are deployed!
It took us a little while to get off the ground, but we have 20 expecting moms identified, and we'll be mailing out our first care package this week!
I'm so excited about this - please help spread the word (yes, I'm a shameless pimp - so sue me). Marine Corps Kids |

We're sending hats, toys, booties and blankets - if you're comfortable with squares - send them - I can join them here.
I just packed up a blanket and hat for baby #1. Feels good! |

| | Re Yay! I'm so excited!!! | | Earlier this week, I chatted with one of the key volunteer coordinators for a deploying battalion. She is the point of contact for the wives of 1,000 deployed Marines - no matter what their problem, she'll find resources to fix it. This is in addition to keeping her own home running smoothly while her husband is deployed. She was so happy to hear about Operation Marine Corps Kids - it will be a tremendous morale boost for these families.
Delia is a treasure. Her vision for this project is going to make a tremendous difference for these families.

Delia is a treasure. | Hell yeah. Good to know there's one thing that everyone on this board can agree on.
Of course, her partner in this enterprise is no slouch herself.

| | Re Yay! I'm so excited!!! | | Delia, I love the way you use your considerable talents to bring joy to others!
A simple project is using the polar fleece to make blankets, either by doing the ties on the edges or just hemming up the sides (my daughter just made one out of giraffe polar fleece.) But are you looking for things that are a little less bulky?
She has a p/t job at a fabric store, so she gets in early on the sales with her employee discount, and gets first pick of the remnants.
Deb, how is Shane doing?

| | Re Yay! I'm so excited!!! | | Shane is fine - he's home, working, and looking forward to going back to school next fall if he doesn't re-enlist. He really misses his Corps. I'd like to see him get his degree first and then go back in as an officer. With three deployments, he has the experience and common sense to make an outstanding officer.
Here's a picture of him and me taken at a recent event:
We're standing with the Thorpes - they are the Gold Star parents of one of his best friends who was killed in Karma 18 months ago. Tyler and Shane went to grade school together and his parents are great folks. They are helping me with a Tribute to the Troops that I'm doing at our local 4th of July celebration.

| | Re Yay! I'm so excited!!! | | Wow, he's really filled out and grown up! He doesn't look a thing like that scrawny kid behind those bars with a cigarette hanging out of his mouth from a few years ago.

| | Re Yay! I'm so excited!!! | | LOL, yes. He was so skinny when he came home but has gained about 20 badly needed pounds. Even so, he had to suck it in a bit to get his dress blues blouse buttoned. He quit smoking too - current girlfriend is a GOOD influence on him.

| | Re Yay! I'm so excited!!! | | Yay Shane!
He looks great, and so do you, Deb!
Fraz - yes, I've made some fleece blankets - we'll need all sorts of baby things and fleece is great (I'm actually making a fleece baby blanket for Marine Corps Kids right now)
If you or your daughter want to contribute - that would be great!
And while I love all the praise, Deb has done all the hard work in setting up this effort - it wouldn't happen without all her hard work and connections. |

And I'm sure he is very proud of his Mom for all the support and advocacy she provides for the Marines. |
