| | I just got this email from #1: Quote:
Dear Mama,
I own a pickup now. I am going to drive it home and then sell it when I get back.

I checked our joint account, and all of the little dollars are still there. I know exactly how much his clothing is worth, and although his Stetson was $$ it doesn't begin to compare to a truck. I have a feeling this is going to be good. If it isn't good, it's more than likely going to be interesting. |

So how did the rodeo go?

| | Re ..and a pickup truck... | | No news.
Does anyone want to hear me rant about tracfone? I bought one for him to take with. You can only use them within the area code you register with them. Which is great- if I want to stay at home and call myself. |

| | Re ..and a pickup truck... | | Not to hijack the thread, but, we were just discussing the tracphone at the picnic I was at yesterday. Two of the gentlemen there had bought Tracphones because they advertised that they had agreements with all of the carriers, so no matter where you were, you had coverage. However, the two of them could not make any calls from the picnic location, except for emergency calls. That would mean, to me, that they had a signal, but they just weren't allowed to use it unless it was an emergency.
All the rest of us with Verizon had a signal, and could make calls without any problems.
Whatever happened with the truck should be an interesting story! |

| | Re ..and a pickup truck... | | Tracfone advertises no roaming for a large area and same price rates to a boatload of places. UK for 10 cents a minute, etc. Which technically is true - as long as you call from your area code. When I called to ask how to make it work outside the area code, they told me that of course it wouldn't work, that I should have read the directions. I reread them and couldn't understand enough to figure out which part means "Tracfone can only be used in the comfort and privacy of your own home", but I am pissed that I spent $$$ to load that thing with minutes so I could talk to my son. Oh, and the minutes? They expire after 60 days. Ya-frickin'-hoo. |

| | Re ..and a pickup truck... | | I use Tracfone all of the time outside of my area code. My son called me from Oregon on his Tracfone.
This doesn't make any sense.

| | Re ..and a pickup truck... | | No, Tracfone does rollover minutes, or you can buy a card with longer service periods, up to a year.
Yeah, I understand now what you're saying - you should have bought it and had it set up so that it was originating from NM to start with. I would think they should be able to change it over. Some of it might depend on the model of phone. I know I called them the other day to inquire about changing my minutes over to a new phone (I'm thinking about getting a new model) and he had to check what model of phone I currently have to see if they could do that. On mine they can. I'd call them back and ask if they can change the origination point for you.

| | Re ..and a pickup truck... | | Melanie is right, your minutes won't go away, I've never lost minutes with Tracfone. And I second what she says about changing the "home" area to NM, they should be able to do that for you--or if not with that phone transfer his minutes to a phone that can be used in NM and that might cost you very little for the new phone.
Sometimes Tracfone has ticked me off but they've always come through for me so I've stuck with it for years now. I'm always switching minutes back and forth between phones, getting new phones and have never lost my minutes. Both of my sons, myself and my mom have Tracfones under my account.
I think their phones are low quality and that is where the problem with no service comes in that Margaret mentioned or the carrier it is contracted with in that area sucks.

| | Re ..and a pickup truck... | | Just make sure that you buy new minutes before the old minutes expire or they won't roll-over. Plus, if you let the minutes expire you end up with a new phone number if you buy minutes later on.
